I work in buildings all over Chicago and the suburbs. Lots of old ones we still take care of with original brick base steam boilers. The company has been in business since 1918. Plenty of process,  refinery and chemical plant work too. And hospitals, but generally just in the main mechanical rooms and boiler rooms.

Cant say Ive run into any ghosts at work, but plenty of opportunities late at night in the bowels of old buildings. Though Im way more concerned from the living threats. Especially when the locals get to rioting over news events.

luckily I only make a living there. Live in a quiet peaceful unincorporated suburb - minutes from the wide open farmland where I really want to live.

this my my view when I’m working on the roof.
used to be hundreds of dairy farms around here.
I do love where I live, I just wasn’t in NJ. 😂

No junkyard shopping today. I spent the morning cursing NJDOT and Honda. The wife said her pilot is making noise. The sway bar bushing hold down clamp rusted thru. It took all morning but it’s fixed. I had to weld nuts on what was left of the bolts and make a new strap.  My homemade strap will outlast the car. 46701F81-C9BA-4939-8CF0-FABC87CBF4C8.jpeg.d1a602312bdbf9fda698337e81d95084.jpeg

After I got that cleaned up I tore the tractor down and cleaned up my mods so far. I cut out the 3/4 rod that was in my battery spot in the clear spot in the tunnel. I tightened up pivot points and a few other odds and ends. I had a Tecumseh with a tank that happens to fit in the tunnel. I’m gunna make that work.
My son showed up late and he’s fabbing up the rear fenders and tool tray. We’re kinda copying the setup on the Massey. 45FE8D61-20DA-4CBA-91D9-B22409B52BD3.jpeg.6e31f1a21ef3490f34f79a65a2999ce7.jpeg0A1F1EC9-E909-4113-82F4-A81B64B40A6E.jpeg.a58109c88e0fa1c6dd4dc9180a439a86.jpegB09B09B4-3F26-4844-B33B-4C2F49A1DB6F.jpeg.46b9b0f29609f15c21fc20b8fe9aa7ed.jpeg3D8DB291-A89A-4FB0-B55F-641ED29ADF08.jpeg.ba6aa9a730e9e071dcaa93fe9e4b29e4.jpegFFC1F16C-5F8A-4689-9E40-053E99DA02E1.jpeg.79c55457f97fedc545e7fb214d021fcc.jpeg03295F67-4235-42AE-809A-03ABE513A4FC.jpeg.dd23e28b21b7d2e1ec0c406aff200823.jpeg

That's looking pretty good so far. Repair on the car should out quite a while too.

Got more pics of the MF? Looks like a nice (industrial?) tractor.

It was made by Dura Corp. they made tractors sold under a few names. Massey Ferguson wanted to get into the homeowner tractor business in 64 I think. This is a 64/65. It’s kind of a rare bird but there’s a few around.
The engine is oem and has a 6 digit # with no letter. We have a deck for it but it needs A LOT of work. I use it to putt around and haul my cart.

Glad to have popped in and saw this thread. Will be starting on a slammed 856 this winter.  Our new property/build site is in a very spread out community- everyone rides golf carts and side by sides.  A 30mph Horse in the weeds that can also haul my jon boat to the dock is gonna be fun!

I started brainstorming this afternoon with the stuff we cut up Sat. 522C7BC4-AFF2-462A-9D1C-8F0B08821914.jpeg.ce7e036c5bd59d7fa2d91de746224df7.jpeg6ABC5B0C-C50F-4889-98A2-B20F4678982D.jpeg.e34a462bb509b057e49e21dc4def2f13.jpeg2047AB0B-11D6-486F-BF71-6B5456C02698.jpeg.721b02409e3d6ed363cc2e7b45a0bf62.jpeg9E83313B-11A1-4DA7-AFFC-48D4CB98C19B.jpeg.5a5402ba648e1cf9b5b2012523a2a2ed.jpeg

We’ve got to get the fenders and sheet metal trimmed up I’m thinking of a ridged seat post for the steel pan seat.
There’s also a early morning junkyard trip rescheduled for Sat so this all might change.

I took the deck off the big tractor cause I gotta patch 2 thin spots and if it’s in my sons way maybe he’ll fix it. 😁

I had to go nose to nose to see the drop. FD423CE7-5183-4732-8224-17EAFBB57089.jpeg.51838fd69793569baabfaaa5021d76e3.jpeg

I tacked up the pan and fenders to get a better idea of the end result.
It’s more fabbing tin than I wanted to do. My son will have to do the fitting and filling. 😁

Im still hoping to find inspiration at the scrapyard Sat.
This is what I gotta get patched on the big Tractor deck. C271CFA3-164A-4881-9AEE-97859371BA3C.jpeg.3da33f91dbca0a5d10347a2c9ed8a449.jpeg003F3AA6-2E47-4E29-867F-F1AF16A44D52.jpeg.343df5f3f6c6336b6ff9f4005c26e1fc.jpeg
This shouldn’t be bad just gotta match the curve. I have fender pan pieces that should fit right in.

Nothing good at the junkyard for my build. Nothing new coming in. Scrap is dead around here. Hopefully it’ll pick up in the cooler weather ahead.
Here’s some pics of the place.
The owner is gunna call when any wheel horse tractors come thru.

Pulled it apart again. (I can do it in 5 mins now). I’ve got a hydro pulley coming for it so I’m going to get the drive system finalized as far as belts go in a few days.

For now I’m going to use this trans since it’s slim pickings at the scrapyard. I’ll put some oil in it and see how bad the seals leak. I have axle seals but I’d rather put them in a better trans.

Im going to work on making a wire harness and an interlock setup for the clutch. I may just add a “trick” to start it for now.

I may start paining some of the stuff that I think were done with.

Does anyone know if they had different 1” length axles? My C101 has a good 1” gap between the hub and trans with the hub even with the end. It had the 11/8” axles. Both of the 1”trans I have the hub is tight to the trans with the shaft ends flush.

I don’t wanna build a fender that is to narrow for a wider trans.

Think they rely on the hubs being close to shoulder mounted to prevent damage in the differential part of the transaxle. Like a thrust bearing.

Ive got mine apart right now, and the gear and shaft are just float fit. And will push inward a good 1/4 inch.

There is a c-clip to prevent outward motion, but not inward.

Middle gear in the pic is the axle gear(one of them)

Cleaned and painted the front rims. Added some rubber snubbers on my axle stops. Added a flag so cars see me on the hills.

The tool tray will mount on top of the trans and support the fenders.

A while ago I picked up a Canadiana 5hp heavy duty tiller. It features forward and reverse control and you could buy add on implements for it.

My example unfortunately suffered a catastrofic engine faillure a.k.a. 'window' in the block. Hence it was cheap so I picked it up. The idea I had for it was to mount it on the rear of my 'Murray to IH 1568' build. However since I bought a Wheel Horse i've been thinking about mounting it on the front of that tractor.
      This is what i'm thinking..
