Handy Don 10,585 #111 Posted July 29, 2022 You will, of course, have an extra challenge having done the linseed oil treatment, getting the surface back to paint-accepting clean. I live with dimpling unless it's affecting structure. After I've gotten the accessible rust/paint off (using a combo of e-tank, angle grinder with paint removing disk/stiffwire wheel, pointy scraper tool, scotchbrite, etc. as needed), I use a soft wire brush in a drill that will reach down a bit to be sure I've gotten as much scale out as I can. Then I use a stiff brush to apply and work in Rustoleum Rusty Metal primer, if it's a non-visible part like the frame or underside of a fender, hood, or deck shell. If I don't want brush marks showing, then 3-4 light coats of the same sprayed. Applied 30 minutes apart Others here who are after a smoother finish use a needle scaler to really clean the pits and follow with a bonding primer and then body filler or a filler primer. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I'm sure it will eventually come off. I wanted to see if if I liked it enough to keep. I do like it, but if I'm already taking the complete tractor apart, I might as well paint! I'll prep as best I can using all the mentioned technics. It doesn't need to be perfect, it still has a story to tell. Might go with a filler primer, we shall see.
