IDNK fillers, your suggestion?

I use 3 different fillers.

A fiberglass reinforced filler for first coat over any welds.

https://www.amazon.com/Bondo-Marson-Mar-Glass-Gallon-Hardener/dp/B000FN4G2K

A regular filler for a any other dents or imperfections.

https://www.amazon.com/Bondo-261-Lightweight-Filler-Pint/dp/B0007ZG9TO

A final coat of icing, A super fine filler to get rid of any pin holes or minor imperfections left in the previous fillers.

https://www.amazon.com/USC-26006-Icing-tube-Finishing/dp/B00GQ1X1MQ

Final sanding of the fillers is done with 180 grit before priming.

Then I use an automotive urethane primer to take care of any minute imperfections. Urethane primer will not shrink under the paint like a lacquer primer will, so any filling that it does is permanent. The urethane primer is then wet sanded with 400 or 600 grit before paint is applied. I see that @giddyap hood has some spot putty on it, Spot putty is good for minor imperfections that are found after primer is applied, but it is a lacquer based filler and there is a chance that it will shrink under the paint. If it shrinks then you will be able to see the imperfections on close inspection. Nothing wrong with spot putty, but you do run the risk that I mentioned.

The above are my methods. They may not be for everyone, but it's what works for me.

Your hood has turned out great so far Giddyap. :handgestures-thumbupright:

This hood deserves a better finish than what I have to accept from the spot putty. When I saw that "Icing" I immediately knew I wanted to give it a try. I'll order it, address the imperfections and look forward to a better finish. Thanks for the incentive Dan.

Please note it is really not made to be put over primer or paint. But if you do wish to use it that way make sure that you have at least a 180 grit scratch in the primer or paint so that it will adhere.

Also ordering from Amazon it does not say if the hardener is included or not. Uses the same cream hardener as any other body filler.

Why the fiberglass over the welds?

It is more water proof than regular filler. If there are any pin holes in the weld they will be sealed up.

Some sort of "fine cut" fibers?

Yep. It was designed to fill holes in body panels. They also make a log strand for larger holes. Never a good idea to try to cover large holes though, they will only return some day in the near future. Filler over good metal will last a long time. Filler over rust holes will be soon falling out.

I'm a ship without a rudder, my whim could decide my final decision. Just because I didn't like the height of the steering wheel, I have to drop the tower or something else to please my eye. So, why not explore my options? What's the harm? Said me, that is now dazed and confused.

Yeah me too. I cut 6" off the front end and it looks good next to my C-165. Oh yeah custom tail lights and air foil!

Still undecided so I must continue building each one, one at a time. Today I got a good start building the seat pan and clamping down the instrument panel box on the black hood. The steering wheel position looks good but on the round hood, ugh. So that might be the big issue from me liking the round hood build and finding a solution. Photo did not load, see next post

Choosing between two tractors was hard, but not as hard as choosing best photo. So I leave the choice of eye candy up to you. Still much work ahead but I can no longer ignore finding a  replacement gas tank. I can now pin the quick release steering wheel and later try JB weld to make it tight and secure. I gotta get this done with carpal tunnel surgery in the near future. So without further ado I present my yet to be finished #5
