A private garden for growing vegetables and fruits is a great idea. I've always dreamed about it myself, but I've never thought about doing it in practice. I was convinced only by my wife, who once shared that this is also her dream for a very long time. As soon as she told me that, I realized that I couldn't put it off anymore and had to fulfill her dream. I ordered the services of the guys from www.concretecontractorsdallastx.com/, for them to help me make the foundation for my new garden, and I was very pleased with what happened. Now my wife is more than happy when she works in the garden.

Here's the garden divided into growing rows.

And a slug.

Oh by the way... All the rows were hand hoed by the BBT.

Even she got a workout doing that.

The chunks of wood are mostly hemlock. They'll be to line the base below the wire fence. Makes the bottom harder to dig at and raises the height 15, 16" or so.

Busy day today. Went for a 5+ mile hike this morning and worked in the garden this afternoon.

BBT and her mom planted some various seeds.

More wood cut and placed as the base.

Likely the wire fence will be installed tomorrow.

Possibly also plant all the baby plants they been growing and buying.

THE GARDEN IS IN !!!

Today the BBT, her mom, and a 🐻 me.... Spent much of the day getting everything all set up.

We cut a hole in the backyard fence and put in a "gate" (screen door).

Trina and her mom built the gate for the garden area.

All of us got the wood base finished up, wire fence installed.

The two womens folk planted all the sprouts we had and the plants they'd been picking up at stores.

I added the orange tapes which will function as a visual deturent for the 🦌 deer.

We'll also be adding sliced mylar for the same reason.

In “deerish” that fence reads: “Eb’s and BBT’s Eats - Good Food and Better Times”… :ychain:

Looks great! Hope it has good yields!!!

We're hoping it'll keep them out for the most part.

We have a fair amount of them around here but they're all so very well fed in the wild and even the neighbors with no fencing at all don't have very many problems.

I'm probably also going to hang mylar strips from some slightly taller sticks.

Another thing I was reading about just yesterday is to put a twist in the mylar because it has a very particular buzzing and rattling sound in the wind that most wild animals are not at all fond of.

It'll be a learning process for sure. Like Trina says, it'll either work or it won't.

😀

Irish spring soap keeps the deer out, just slice it up and put around the edge. Crushed up egg shells help keep the slugs out, other soft skinned bugs also. Like razor blades to them, good for the soil also. Good luck, looking fantastic.

Thanks darb!

We'll pick up some Irish spring. Plenty of eggs around here.

We don't get too awful concerned about bugs and slugs because Trina checks the garden once or twice every day and so does her mom. Always good to have that extra help though.
