Yeah, or maybe cutting a piece of some kind of rubber mat... :confusion-confused:

I think, I would definitely be wary of using an impact on that... even though it does look tempting ;)

Definitely exhaust all other avenues first...

Abber so lutely uber alles.  I have the service manual for the trans / hydraulic motor, and there are some expensive looking parts in there that might not take kindly to hammering with an impact wrench!

I mean, just the name "swash plate" sounds like many gold coins to me!

I'm often obtuse.  The way I spelt 'absolutely' sounded German so I added a little real German to it. Uber alles means over all.

Hope springs eternal!  No damage, just loose.  Strap wrench around the drum, nut came right off.

Cleaned it up, coat of paint, waiting for it to dry now.  New brake lining on it's way.

I got up at 3 AM to have a look and it was cloudy!  bummer.

Yeah, I know, I was real happy that it came off so easily.  Of course when I first tried it I still had the wheel on... fender was off but wheel still on.  Once I took the wheel off, piece of cake!

I don't understand though, WHY was it loose?  and WHY were there 'bugger marks' on the nut as if someone had been fooling with it.  I can't see any reason to be fooling with that drum.

The mysteries of old WH tractors, I'll never know the answer!

I hope I remember to torque it down tight once the new brake lining is on!  I tore the strap wrench (from the dollar store!) tightening it.  Not satisfied that it's tight enough yet!

I've used a ratchet strap on pesky stuff like that.  Looks like you could go around the drum and tie it to the axle.  :occasion-xmas:

That would probably work... maybe with some friction material between the strap and the drum, like a strip of rubber or something.  I don't think it needs to be 'lug nut' tight, so probably could work.  I'm going to wait until the new brake lining gets here and give that a try.

Of course!

In fact, I'm thinking of engraving your name on the dashboard!

I received and installed the new brake lining yestiddy.  Jamming on the brake with an actual lining instead of just the bare metal band did the trick.  Tightened that nut right up, no problem!  Also installed the new brake safety switch.

Getting there!

Started another  thread with more questions / photos on this machine...

Just now hit 'submit'... seems I forgot to do that!  and I edited the title too.
