New-to-the-herd checklist?

Didn't go through the whole thread but I think it's a good idea to replace the fuel tank grommet.  I had one leak and deposit a rather large puddle of tractor pee on the floor.  Could have been disastrous!

Excellent suggestion.

I added that and fuel outlet.

Outlet is one of the filters and should absolutely be replaced.

Good to see you also added the magnetic drain plug. I tend to always have tranny problems and so I have to open them. But the metal flakes I always find... People don't know how to shift strait cut gears.

Worked on this Bolens today, metal flakes everywere. eventhough the oil was just replaced!

This was just from sticking this magnet deep in the tranny when their was still oil in it.

Yup… I always do that. Fuel tank grommet and petcock w/filter. It’s just for peace of mind.

Suggestions for the cosmetics...Just got an original paint, stored inside, C-160. Lots of elbow grease and 3M rubbing compound followed by Flynns Cherry Wet wax. Amazed at how well the paint still looks! Not perfect but darn nice for an almost 50 year old tractor.

Will be posting pictures tomorrow.

You left out broken tab on axle pivot since a lot of them are broken.  On 300, 400 and 500 series the front attachment at fender and gas tank a lot are broken or cracked. not a real deal braker ,but will require structural repai, welding and additional metal for a solid repair.

All 520 Onan remove engine covers and clean cooling fins as the oil filter bracket will hold some oil if not cleaned when changing . This with dust and grass will fill the rear cooling fins up solid. I believe that is the reason for valve seat problem.
