Hey Sylvia.  Is the E series the same physical footprint as a blackhood C?

Yes. Only difference is the hood is fiberglass, wraps lower on sides and is taller and the seat pan sits higher to accommodate two batteries where the gas tank would be.

Here’s some comparison pics:

Yes standard is 6. Two banks of three wired in series then connected in parallel. I’m running three in series. 36 volt. Two under seat and one under hood.

But… now there’s 4 batteries…! Big progress today. New (3) batteries installed. Train horn hooked up. Using best of old batteries dedicated to the horn and eventual lighting for the train… working on adding the battery monitors…

Thanks!

But I do give most credit to Erv Troyer who got it going for Dave Mercer the previous owner. See post 14. He and Dave were very helpful early on with history and direction… I’ve been blessed to be putting the finishing touches on their great efforts…

Nope. I have read elsewhere that it supposedly was equal to a 14 hp engine but I don’t know if that is accurate. I don’t recall where I read it…

No details in the owners manual I have…

14hp is around 10.5KW.

Then it must go trough a lot of battery?

Your battery's are 80AH, at 12v each so 80 AH*36V for the three= 2880 watts for an hour or 2.88KWH

that means you will have 3.9hp available for a complete hour. which I think is pretty good.

Or at full power, I think you will have 16 minutes. That being said, pulling the train wouldn't require full power probably less then half.

PS. I may be completely wrong with my calculation here, just thinking out loud.

Beats me… I’m not an electric guy…

I have not run it with full train but it will be in first or second gear and everything rolls pretty easy on paved flat roads…

I ran it for half hour in third gear pulling one trailer with four kids and it didn’t even flinch…

I now have the battery monitors and will be testing full train with weight as soon as it stops snowing!!! Should tell me how much juice it uses…I really only need 1/2 hour run times for what I do with it… so I am confident my needs will be met…
