Weld gloves are crap

Recommended Posts

kpinnc

I used to have an old leather set of welding gloves that actually protected my dang hands. The new ones are junk! Might as well just not use them!

Just making a pass about 3 inches from my knuckles and I fried my hand. Good thing no one was looking because I did a dance and song that would have been embarrassing... :P

My daughter caught me welding in Crocs the other day. She asked me if I was crazy... Then laughed hysterically when I started dancing.

Sounds like the uniform provided at; " pullstart Plumbing & HVAC." Where the motto is: "We will get your install done providing there are no tractors, school busses or Coke Machines for sale on the way!" :helmet: :techie-studyinggray: :helmet:

Why did I know I’d be mentioned in this thread?  By the way, guess who’s wearing flip flops today! :greetings-clapyellow:

A day without injury for @pullstart means he is babysitting or in bed sleeping of the injury from a previous day.

In college,  I loaned my safety glasses to my roommate. He took welding at a different time than me. He found he couldn't see well with them on along with the welding helmet so he took them off and put them on the shelf under the welding bench. He brought them back to me all melted! :)

I have had some similar experiences...

I caught a paper towel on fire... towel... box... important instructions to install a part on my Ranger....

BUT... I have never gotten hurt... burned? Yes... hurt... no....

I do have a sticker on my welding machine that says: "Don't hurt me... I've been hurt a lot..."

Oh of course. But there is a big difference in a little jig versus full on riverdancing. Just depends on the level of spatter. :D

I worked for a newspaper for about 5 years casting the lead plates for the printing presses.  I had river dance down to a tee.

In fact the one in the middle looks a lot like me!  Hell, they ALL do !!!

My dad was no welder, but he did keep a pair of asbestos gloves in the shed.  Try getting your hands on a pair of those these days!  His are probably in a landfill in much the same condition as they always were.

Mine are OK at keeping the heat out, but useless for trying to work in as no feeling. Try and pick a bit of steel up off the floor, it's almost impossible and usually ends with a glove flung across the room in anger!
