3 point hitch

Recommended Posts

I have a Massey Ferguson 16 with a start of a 3 point hitch. Are 3 point hitch parts specific to tractor brands, or are they pretty much generic for most garden tractors?20210807_052840.jpg.7477ad117dffaac52db5e1cc734f7b52.jpg

953 nut

You should be able to hang that off the back of a :wh: and then get the lower arms from most any small tractor.

VERY doubtful they are same across brands --- for example, even in the same brand. I have a MF1655 and the 3pt is totally different from yours (though the 1650 is the same as the 55)

Youre missing a good bit of yours and I bet it'd be a a shocker if you could find them  --- Massey parts are more scarce than the horses! My 54" deck is sitting useless because of a pulley I need -- they just are not to be had. (Its cog belt driven and the pulley is PLASTIC!!!, no wonder they dont last!!)

But, doggone if my 1655 isnt just a really nice tractor!

3 point hitches are controlled by an ISO specs, i.e. the dimensions between the lower lift arms, the hole diameters, etc., and are listed in categories, category 0 (most garden tractors), category 1 (sub compacts and compacts, etc), category 2, category 3, etc.  How a manufacturer makes the 3 point and how to attach it to the tractor is where the differences lie.

Below is a couple of the ISOs that controlled the specifications for certain categories of 3 point hitches.  There is also a ISO for a sleeve type hitch also.  I included it also.

BTW, ISO stands for International Standard Organization.

1975 (?) MF 16. Probably the most complete older tractor I have bought. Everything is there, save the rest of the 3 point hitch. I replaced the coil and condenser, cleaned the points, thoroughly cleaned the fuel system with new lines, and filer, mounted the solenoid to the frame, and put on a China carb. It fired right up. :D

I have 2 14's and have been looking for a 16 for several years. This one popped up on FB, and I was able to snag it up. It needs a little spit and polish, but I will get to it eventually. Now I just need to find my :wh: Senior, or lever steer.
