Briggs 19hp Intek-Surge/Hunting?

I picked up this engine, was told it ran "excellent."

I installed it and it ran like crap!.

I asked the seller about it and he forwarded a video, first video.

I will begin the frustrating trouble-shoot on an engine that should be "excellent?"

No he wouldn't stand behind his word....(Market place)

I should have asked if he had a video before the purchase, but I trusted him.

I checked the governor settings first off, got this result in the second video.

Now I have to trouble-shoot an "excellent running engine?"

Just gets to be old real quick, everyone has their own interpretation of "excellent"

(Any thoughts greatly appreciated)

Hopefully you got it real cheap, especially with the high hours on it.  You gotta remember these are junk throw away engines, lots of plastic parts. I would never buy a used one of these

I got a free la series Deere from a neighbor had the typical cam shaft compression release issues, after I put the new cam in and with valve adjustment it still never ran right.  That engine only had 330 hours.

You can get a brand new drop in engine for less than 500 bucks and installing is about 15 minutes.  Which is what I did.  I even sold off the old engine for parts.

Say,

what engine did you buy? I would like to keep it plug & run if at all possible....The 17 that was in it ran, but I couldn't get it real smooth like it had worn counter weight bushings?

Yes. it was cheap.

I guess if go by spec numbers it should be pretty close to plug & run. If I have to modify maybe a better engine is worth the effort?

Say, not for nothing, I held the choke and she ran excellent, lean issue? I tried another used carb but same thing. Must two dirty carbs? I can try the one off the 17? Or can it be the fuel pump? Fun.

I will make a mental note of the Small Engine Warehouse.

Here, I approached this a bit more simply and began rebuilding carburetors.

1) Walbro- rebuilt off ebay, surged non-repairable

2) Nikki- rebuilt off 19hp engine, surged in need of machining on low idle port enlarge to .25, (time consuming requires purchase micro drills)

3) Walbro-from old factory 17hp with knock issue, success!
