What module do I need to convert this Briggs from points/coil to solid state?

Jim or Dan, did you ever find you had to turn the module around  ?    I read several reports where the module had to be flipped around to get a good spark.

I didn't have to (AL block) but some motors yes depending on the polarity of the magnets. You can send the flywheel in to have the magnets repolarized  but you don't want to do that. If they think the wheel is defective you won't get it back.  Dan will know more.

Reversing the coil should only have to be done if you have a cast iron block. That block had reversed polarity on the magnets. Aluminum block should have the correct polarity for normal installation of the coil.

OK, I got the coil today and installed it with 0.010" gap.    Perfect bolt on match.

Have good spark and the Briggs ran but would not throttle up.   Seems to be starving for fuel.   So off comes the carb to find this.

It amazes me that it even runs like this.

This was in the bowl.

The float pivots and the valve opens and closes,  but the pin is frozen in the aluminum ears.   Probably not coming out with out breaking an ear off.  I may just clean it up and put it together as is.

Oh, Dan or Jim, why are there two kill wires coming off the same kill lug?  One has a bare end and one has a ring terminal.  I didn't connect either as there is a kill lever that shorts the spark plug.

A couple more years and you would've had diamonds. LoL

Some engines had a kill switch on the engine and the other wire would be for a remote switch.

:text-yeahthat:On some engines there is a kill wire hooked to the throttle so the engine will shut down when the throttle is pushed all the way in the slow direction, or it can be shut off with a switch.

If you find that the carb is beyond repair, I have had good luck with the china 2 piece flow jets from :techie-ebay:. They usually cost just a few $ more than a B&S rebuild kit.

And you don't have to try and clean that mess!

What is this motor on Ed?

I only found two sizes.  The medium 3 bolt and the large 4 bolt.     Mine is a 4 bolt, but it is on a 3HP engine.     Do you think I need the large 4 bolt carb?

One would not think so.

The OEM number for the carb that engine should be 295607

If all else fails, check the venturi size in comparison to yours
