Replacement

Recommended Posts

I recently purchased a 1973 Wheel Horse 12-8 ( no name /Raider) . My research reflects this should be a 5073 transmission??  Am replacing the seals in tranny. Ordered some from a vendor ( here) but apparently are the incorrect ones. Am currently stopped at the Brake shaft seal. When I view the manuals it appears to be identified as a #1232, but my research reflects this to be for a 1” OD shaft. My shaft OD  measures 5/8 ,  along the old seal also appears to measure 1” OD. Thus appears I am in need of a seal measuring 5/8 ID and 1” OD. Any suggestions are more than appreciated as I am at an impasse. Thanks in advance

Sure the brake shaft OD is not 3/4"?

5073 is on the 3rd list

Measured (again) this AM before leaving for work as I am now second guessing myself. Again using cheapo tool, I come up with 48/64 shaft size multiple times(apparently yesterday pm either mis-measured / misread/ having a senior moment at end of long day or all of the above. Have old seal in pocket my see if local Oreilly A/P has anything in stock at their warehouse.

You found the 1-0350 model number on the ID plate? What is the serial number?

903904 is the serial # on the plate ( just happen to have photos of tractor and that info  on my phone)

Model 5073 is correct as far as I can see but have no idea why the shaft is 5/8".

Can you see in far enough to tell if the needle bearing is also 5/8" ID?

Wondering if the shaft has not been changed out with a different model of transmission.

Added your serial number here and it is a very early 1973 model.

Click on the fuzzy photo in the link to view it

Let's hope our resident transmission specialist @stevasauruscan shed some light on this.

I am confident we can find a seal with a 5/8" ID.

Yes, there is some confusion in the manuals some place.  The brake shaft is 3/4" the bearing is a 1523 which equates to KOYO B-1210 and the seal is 100441 or SKF-7410.  :occasion-xmas:

Sorry, I had mistakenly typed 5/8" for the shaft diameter...this is not right...the shaft is 3/4".  sorry.  :hide:

OK the parts lists are correct. The bearing and seal both have a 3/4" ID. SKF seal is 7410. The B1210 bearing is 12/16" ID x 10/16" deep (width) [3/4" ID x 5/8" deep]
