Not sure if you are in a rush but personally I’d try to find the factory correct highback seat with the logo. Kinda like the ones I have in my basement that aren’t for sale!!! All kidding aside I have to commend you on what an awesome job you are doing.

@WheelhorseBob , excellent job you are doing on that !  did you fill in the pto lever , sloppy fit to the ground rail along side of the battery ? the lever tends to walk out of side of its mounting , on handle side . with tour battery removed , the gap on the inside of that lever , is exposed . filled mine with steel washers and plastic washers ,  about 3/8 " thick , also used silicone grease at all swing points , making for a very solid lever advantage. no more lever creep, also detailed the lever rod with a heim joint at swing point end , like butter , pete

I just realized that I should have started this thread earlier. I completely overhauled the 8-speed over the winter. When this thing is done, quite literally every nut and bolt will have been touched. Hearing her run tonight was incredibly satisfying!

Trina and I have done 3 like that so far.  We've not had to get into an engine yet but every single other piece nut bolt washer screw etc...

We have 1 to finish and 1 to do a complete resto on this next few months. 

 

It's a bunch of work for sure. Worth. Every. Second.

So I threw my chainsaw digital tach on it tonight and it seems as though it is doubling the readings. 7000 ish at WOT and slow idle around 1650rpm. Must be double. Seeing as a saw fires every revolution and a four stroke every other I would have assumed halved readings not double. Must be having a brain cramp….

You get a Kohler one lunger up around 14000 rippin RPM I'll be some kind of impressed.

Hmmm. Does sound like it's doubling.

My experience is that the 4-cycle spark goes with every turn of the flywheel but there is only compressed fuel/air to burn on every other rotation.

How does your tach detect revolutions? Does it have separate settings for single and multi-cylinder engines?

Some do. 

My big flat twin for instance has that "waste spark" system. 

 

Some others fire off the cam so it fires every other crank rotation.

I was referring to one-cylinders that have a magneto or a flywheel sensor controlled spark. If there are camshaft-actuated points, then there are no wasted sparks.

So this year long restoration is winding down. I really love this tractor and because of this the 161’s are my second favorite horses. Ok, that being said I’m gonna start in on my next. But, it’s not a Horse🤫. I bought a basket case 1961 Cub Cadet Original. Just bought a few hard to find parts to put her back to “original” like the oil bath air cleaner on the 7 horse Kohler. Excited to start and I’d like to share my progress here. Is it appropriate to do it in the restoration section or other brand’s section? Btw a progress pic…nice air cleaner….

First ride! Can everyone see the video? Not sure they load? Also first test of the completely overhauled transaxle. No funny noises, leaks and it shift’s perfectly.

And first oil change at about 1 hour. Being every thing is new in this engine I want to flush it out good. Probably over kill. Like the ninety I put on the drain, makes it easy!
