If you haven't ordered roller spindles yet they are easy to make. Some 1/8" x 3/4" flat and 1/2" bar is all you need.

SAM-1036.jpg

I had my welder guy make 5 new one's...here is a pic of them.

The spindles that the skid wheels will roll on are made of stainless steel.

They look great.

I made similar ones then went one step further and added grease fittings.

To fix up the worn rollers themselves, I drilled them then added brass bushings.

@Horse Newbie  nice work on those , what are you using for lubricant ? you need something that was made for tough spots , like , lucas x-tra heavy duty grease , walmart $ 5 , read the specs on the tube or look it up . all my decks and pto drive set ups use this grease , it works , pete

My order from A-Z Tractors arrived !

A little closer to completing my deck restoration...

Could someone maybe post a hand drawn sketch of how the rubber bushing, spring, and washers go to mount the deflector on my 48 inch SD deck ?

Or at least tell me something like 1. Rod on back of deck- plastic washer, spring, rubber spacer, plastic washer, metal washer, cotter pin.

2. Threaded stud on front of deck- metal washer, rubber spacer, metal washer, nut...

you get the picture ?

@Jeff-C175  did put this pic on here, and I do appreciate the help...

But if you look at the pic, the description of the parts do not match the numbers with the arrows pointing to the part...I'll probably be able to figure it out though...

They sure don't!

There, I fixed it... ;)

But this part?  That don't go with the chute...  Isn't that a 'breather tube' ?

@Jeff-C175  thanks a lot for fixing that !

And yes that is a breather tube for the Briggs Twin...I had A-Z Tractors throw one in the order for my deflector chute for my 48 inch SD deck. My breather tube was dry rotted and cracked.

The one Lincoln sent is in much better shape

Okay fellas...need some help here...

I was waiting on paint to dry and about to do some house/ shop cleaning and I walked by  the 48 inch SD deck...stubbed my toe...

So then I decided to try to figure out how the deflector chute mounts on the 48 inch SD deck.

I cant figure it out !

Can one of you post a pic of a deflector chute mounted on a 48 inch deck ( deck model # 78360 ) ?

I have a diagram that @Jeff-C175 posted to help me out, but it does not exactly match my application...am I missing parts ?

Did you install the threaded stud on the front?

I believe the spring goes between the chute and the deck.  The short end of the spring goes in that small hole.  I'm not sure where the loop on the spring goes though

I've only ever mounted the fixed variety, four bolts and done.

@Jeff-C175  Thanks for helping me try to figure this out.

The non threaded stud that sticks out of the back is not long enough to get the spring in between the deck and the chute. :scratchead:

I have not got a threaded stud/ bolt for the front yet.

I'm hoping that someone who is familiar with the newer decks will chime in!

I wonder if a previous owner cut that stud shorter and drilled a new hole for the pin?

Or, if 'in between' models didn't use the spring at all?

That's what I don't get!  By all rights, that manual should be correct.

I also don't understand why this thread is not getting you an answer!

@Jeff-C175...I don't know either.

I'm not sweatin' it.

I had thought maybe I bought the wrong chute from A-Z. Tractors/ Lincoln, or maybe the wrong spring...:scratchead:

I know my welder buddy can make something up that will work.

I just thought it would be easier if I could just buy the parts.

It's a head scratcher to me !

Could be I just have not held it in the right position yet...but THAT spring that I have sure does seem to be too long...

Here is stuff from the owners manual that supposedly covers my deck...diagram and parts list.

The only thing I can figure is the spring is too long.

When I put the chute on and push it back to where the front of the chute is up against the front of the deck, there is only about a 1 inch gap between the two, and that spring looks to be 2 to 2.5 inches long...

Here is a pic I just quickly found online of the rear pin.

Looks similar to yours so all I can figure now is maybe you have the wrong spring perhaps.

Thanks @cleat, and also if you notice, I have 2 holes in the deck at about where the pic you posted has a shorter pin...guess I could either have my welder add a short pin to my deck, or run a bolt through the deck.

This is from the 1993 parts list. The 78345 is the 42" deck and the 78360 is 48".

Can't find a picture of the 116082 but is more expensive.

The online parts lists show both springs but don't identify what deck they are for.

I just went out back and took some pictures of my restored decks on the rack.

Here are 2 pictures of the 42" deck and it's chute retainer pin and spring.

As you can see, the pin is much longer and uses the long spring.

654614571_42deckchutespringandpin1.jpg.857dd9b01b086e853183488052dd4f58.jpg

1205688782_42deckchutespringandpin2.jpg.747613ebce8374f41d51eee2f73528bd.jpg

Here is the pin on the 48" deck.

As you can see the pin is shorter so a smaller spring is required.

1131777590_48deckchutepin.jpg.6550a0943a5bf8bc83234abe58bf459c.jpg

None of my decks have another pin for the spring to fit onto, just 2 holes.

Thanks a million @cleat for taking the time to do this. It means a lot that you would be concerned enough to go to the trouble.

By seeing what you have on your (I presume) unmolested decks, now I know where I stand.

It appears to me now that I will need the shorter spring, and with none of your decks having an extra pin, it appears my deck is also correct, and I will just need a bolt, washers, and nut to go through one of the holes and through the loop in the other end of the spring.

This was exactly the clarification I was looking for !

BTW,  do you use those decks on the racks, or are they part of a collection ?

So for the last 5 to 6 months I have been working on getting my 1994 520H up to operating condition after buying it from a friends backyard a few years ago...now that I'm 99 percent done with the tractor I want/ have to get the 48 inch SD deck that came with it up to operating condition also.
As you can see by the pics I have a lot of work to do/ full restoration...I have a few questions before I get started...
      1. Do the two wheels on the back of the deck control the cutting height ?
      2. Where/ who is a good source for parts ?...I would like to go back with as much new parts as possible, but some of the pricier parts I will probably be willing to use used if my budget forces me to ( spindle are my main concern here).
As you may be able to see from the pics, the front center of the deck has been knocked back quite a ways ( looks like PO centered a concrete driveway/ sidewalk edge, or one stout survey corner stob.
Any suggestions about straightening the front edge would be greatly appreciated.
Also if any of you would have the center front wheel bracket on a junk deck that you would be willing to cut off and sell to me, it would be greatly appreciated.

I just noticed that my b80 (1975) deck is rusting out.  Is there a replacement deck that fits the B80.  Tractor is in great shape--had the engine replace several years ago.
