Mower Deck Pullys

Recommended Posts

Having a problem getting the pulleys off the deck. Tried a couple pullers but the pullers are bending. Have used a good bit of PB Blaster but not much luck. Any better ideas.

soak it down with penetrating oil .

take wonder bars and place it under pulley, resting on the bolts for spindle. Get the bars as close to center of the pulley as you can

pry up on both sides at the same time.

Patience is key

@signman501 , give this a try , done this a number of times , the nail puller pry bars are needed , get a

pair of them , and rocker them under the pulleys on the mounting bolt heads , very easy removal , also a good opportunity to get some hi temp grease in the spindle bearings , any othe questions , just ask , pete

After soaking with pb blaster, i loosen the nut to the top of the spindle, then hit it with a brass hammer and they pop right off, never had one fail yet!

Just a little caution on this, If the bottom bearing doesn't slide on the shaft it can break out the bottom snap ring groove in the aluminum housing.

Most of the time no problem, but an added insurance would be to support the pulley from underneath, like Pete says above.

@signman501, if you use pullers , make sure you buy some extra pulleys , you will need them , pete

Lost Pup

I apply a few heat cycles with a torch, Mapp gas and then try a puller.

Of the few decks I have repaired only one pulley/ hub was destroyed.
