I could use a little help with the Starter Generator LIGHT folks. 

 

Trina's been using this tractor for several months now. No serious issues so far. 

When I wired it all up the S/G lamp was constant on. 

I figured the charging part wasn't working so Trina was popping the battery charger on the tractor about every 3 or 4 weeks from May to August. 

At one point she decided to see how long it would go between charges. That was 3 months ago so we believe it's charging correctly and that the lamp or wiring is the problem.  

 

How do I check the lamp to confirm operation?

If that's good, what's the proper wiring for it?

You can check the battery voltage at rest and while running at half throttle. If there is an increase in voltage your charging system is good to go.

It has been some time since you were doing the wiring so I don't remember if you used a solenoid or what light socket you used. The generator light should have two wires coming from it and neither one will be grounded, the Cole-Hersee  PL 20 RC is the correct socket. If you used a solenoid and 103-990 ignition switch with a Starter/Generator the drawing below is the one you want to follow.

We brought the Millie tractor in the basement workshop for some repairs and maintenance.  

 

Diagnosis on no-start or stall condition. 

 

Change ALL fuel line and filter. (The clear blue line was hardening too quickly for my satisfaction).

 

Increase upper RPM limit. 

 

Determine cause of generator lamp dysfunction as per last post.

Can anybody offer any tips or tricks for repairing stripped out bolt holes in the engine for where the sheet metal is supposed to be held on?

I had a mini bike that Dad cut thin tin strips and put in stripped holes to keep chain guard on... worked like a charm... poor man's tool and die... single use.

 

Not a "repair" but quick and functional. No pics... photography had just been invented...

Ha, Toothpicks work for that! Learned from my grandfather. ( But -- depending upon what it's holding )
