What is that on the Allis-Chalmers heavy car? A turbine? I didn't know AC made stuff like that.

That is @Ed Kennell's image. I do believe it is a turbine for a hydro project.

My experience was mostly with Westinghouse and GE stuff in gas/oil/nuclear powered electricity generation at the plant design and integration stages.

That is a hydro turbine.  Allis Chalmers was the largest hydro turbine manufacturer in the US with plants in York, Pa and West Allis, Wi.

When Allis Chalmers went bankrupt in 1986, the York ,Pa.  plant was bought by  German based  Voith Hydro.    

The plant continues today  to be the  largest hydro turbine manufacturer in the US.

Interesting info, never knew AC did that. I do remember seeing them merged with Fiat at one time.

Well first big snow fall this winter 9 or 10 inches  and it was a plow day. I got my c160 out and it preformed like a champion. The only problem was my lift valve was acting funny then it started to leak fluid at the cap. Then the handle traveled to far back and the plow would drift down if I didn't push it forward a little. It got the job done just as I knew it would. I pulled the valve off and the screw that holds the spring was unscrewed .

I called Lowell and ordered a kit for it.

It never ceases to amaze me what that c160 will push. Live my Wheel horse.  And that is my back yard before and after i have to plow so my little dog can go potty.

wife got me a pair of them battery heated gloves she got them off amazon and dam they work great . they are also rechargeable just plug them in and charge them up have 3 heat settings . pretty stought gloves been using them 3 years now . figured they would fall apart by now but doing good

got some pic's but was dark out . was out there at 6 a.m. this mourning before work temp was around 8 degrees done all this with my 857 and blade took around half hour . had some belt slippage has a newer belt got from my wh dealer my engine pully getting worn . will need to hunt one down soon . boy did i have fun !! my 2 neighbors there was about a sixty horse JD cab tractor with loader and rear snow blower doing their drives i was done by the time he did both of them and he was just a looking at me . another guy stopped with a loader and asked if i needed help i laughed and said i got this

A good business opportunity here, get a good diesel truck, fit it out with a generator & charging points to suit, drive around and find a driver with a flat battery. Charge, no pun intended, an exorbitant price to re-charge their car for 1/2 an hour, then drive off looking for the next one!

No way these photos are going to do it justice but here's a few pictures from about 15 minutes north of Portland Maine. 1/8 to 1/4" of ice on everything up there.

Looks like we need to warm up this rock we live on.  As it becomes clear the new green electricity production ,wind and solar, don't work when it's cold and cloudy.

I'm confused as to how one would get heat on a freezing day out of an electric vehicle. 

Wouldn't it have to have a gas engine to produce heat.?????

That equates to a lot of battery draw, The cars already have such a limited range.

Agreed.  I believe that even if fossil fuels are pushed out, it will be a long, long time from now.

I think they are putting the cart in front of the horse. The majority of our power is generated with fossil fuel which means pollution  to charge the cars so we cut down pollution. Also the loooong time it takes to charge them. Drive a little, sit for hours and repeat. Wouldn't want to drive to the west coast like that.
