Can anyone get me the exact dimensions of the stock hood ornament? I have access to the off branded fin shaped one, but not one of the originals. I have models already made up for the bare original style, one similar to rg854 s wooden one, and the speedy one i did, but i need to get the hole spacing, hole size and other dimensions correct.

I thought you had the measurements in the pictures I texted you:confusion-scratchheadyellow:

The headlight frame and lens models are ready for printing, (once i get some clear filament)

And i finalized the dimensions on the hood ornaments so they are set to print!

WH key fob and matching key hook, @Shaun turner

Includes a second hook for the key for some sort of lesser vehicle, or more than likely for your other Wheel Horse!

I know some of yall need a whole row of hooks just for WH keys!

I realized the previous pic of headlight lenses didnt show well, heres one a little better.

Have the plain, and one set with WHEEL and HORSE that should show through the diffuser.

Will the headlamp assemblies have an arc to them or will they be flexible enough to conform to the hood?

Theyre 4mm thick, so they should curve ok. Ill be trying a set on a buddy's c161, if they dont curve well, ill add a slight arch in the print, or make a forming jig that i ply a little heat to to form the arch

WHX??

One of the problems we have with the lenses is the heat from the bulbs would make them brittle and crack.  Switching to led bulbs helps but then there are the purists amongst us. :)

EB slamming them into a fence post doesn't help either. :ychain:

Getting back to the keys for a minute bet you could make the little black plastic pieces and sammich a regular old indak in it?

Also these very slightly from the factory dimensions. I added 0.2 inch to the height and length to accomodate the screw pockets.

The good thing about this design is lenses can be replaced separately, I'm also gonna try clear ABS rather than poly carbonate.(handles heat better than most plastics) Or, you can use inexpensive and easy to replace plexi or acrylic sheet in pace of the lenses.

I'm gonna have to tinker with the ABS filament a bit to get it as clear as possible. May also be able to use the plexi/ acrylic on the outside with ABS lenses.

The little key covers should be easy. Again, ABS. I could slot the back so the key slides in and when you put the ring on it stays, or I could acetone weld 2 halves together.

Warranty?

Resistant to sunlight and UV

Besides the filaments offered here, PLA or ABS are not suitable because PLA deforms in the heat and ABS yellows when exposed to the sun for several days. Outdoor use of filaments is therefore limited solely to the materials offered here.

While PETG holds a slight edge in sun etc. ABS is still tops for temperature resistance. Most of these parts would be fine out of either, ABS also does better with all the post print finishing. Sanding etc. and resists scratches and dings better.

I recently purchased another printer which will eventually be for PETG items.I'm also thinking about a multi material unit so I can print in multiple colors and material types $$$$$$$

WARNING WHAT FOLLOWS IS GEEK SPEAK!!!!!

Another note on filaments...ABS is notoriously difficult to print with,it requires much higher temperatures, a heated bed,an evenly heated space to avoid warping, and fine tuning of the layers for good adhesion.  PETG is kinda a lesser ABS n my opinion, but the stuff just prints almost like PLA that's why many folks prefer it. Strength wise they are about the same with PETG having a slight edge in UV but ABS has the much higher temperature resistance.

Have you considered vacuum forming the clear lens.

Gonna have to check out the ASA filament. Looks like it may be the same temperature resistance as ABS and works about the same with all the same print issues, but better weathering. I need to find some strength figures.

Might get by with that for the outer cover but I'm worried, that if I can vacum form it, it wouldn't hold up to the headlight heat. I have a mini air hockey table that I plug my vacum into for vacum forming...works great!

@WHX24

I never thought of this, but even making your spare car keys look more factory might be nice.

I’m building a lowered 300 series wheelhorse. So far it’s a combination of 3 scrap tractors.
the frame, trans and tins are from a GT2500 anniversary special given to me by a neighbor with a trashed Briggs. The Kohler M12 is from a junkyard 312 that was roached. The parts tractor I’m using for the build was another older 312. I’ve got the k301 in the garage. The trans was toast. Both axles wallowed out keyways and 1 axle actually broken.
Anyway! I needed a project and a toy to putt around the neighborhood. I couldn’t find any other posts on how to do the whole thing. I’m trying to keep it cheap using stuff I have on hand and looking as “stock but cooler” as possible. So here we go.
I’ll update this as I go along.
