The device itself will add a very slight amount of slop simply because it has gears and gears have lash and lash equals slop.  This is probably so minor that you would never notice it.  It won't increase or decrease the slop downstream of the device, but it will change how it feels.  If you install the device as intended it will make it feel like there is less slop because it will take less steering wheel movement to take up the slop.  If you install it as we are talking about here it will make it feel like the slop is increased because it will take twice as much steering wheel movement to take it up.
