tractorhead, great to see you really staying after your tractor, i also noticed that kati , was getting a new knee, most important part part about knee replacement is REHABILITATION , do not ever let it lapse , i had both of mine done 4 years ago , and have been doing regular knee/ machine work ever since , its tuff , but so important , pass that on for me, pete

Thanks Pete, i will forward to her, 

we tried all to prevent that, but it was impossible, because she was running on her Rim‘s.

The Pain she had was no longer acceptable, so we decide to do that Step.

 

The good Thing is, she have a super Doctor, that explain everything in detail ahead, that she knows exacly what will happen and what can possibly go wrong. The Surgery ( on Monday) was a fully success, yesterday she do her first smal steps on the new knee together with the Doctor without any guiding things.

We hope the convalescent will go further that Way.

about my Tractor, i‘m proud to have it, and as i told i will keep it in good condition.

I love old Iron’s and that‘s how they know me, for some i‘m maybe a Alien but i can deal with that

and the meaning is - „He don’t hurt anybody, he just love it to Play - so let him....

 

All the neighbors are looking on it and fall in memories when they hear how old it really is.

here in our Valley, old iron have an excellent reputation.

I quick Wound 2 coils each with 30 windings on 1mm thick Wire.

I know, not nice, but the wire with 1,0 mm is real stubborn.

 

i didn‘t precalculate it, it‘s just an estimate try.

let‘s see what comes out.

Use special clear coat to seal it after Winding.

Did few more coils, to see how they will perform.

i‘m definitely not a professional or an expert in winding coils i know that, especially while i like to reuse old wires

wound down from existing Transformers, but i did some coils in the past, that surprises me on it‘s results.

 

So build few samples with different windings for Guitar Pickup‘s in the past

here is one of the Samples i keept.

That was the first what really surprises me in it‘s results.

 

The best coils i build, found the Way into my E- guitar after smoothening the Surface and build the steelpins to pickup.

They differs extremely from Attack to clean Sound up to distortion just by Windings and Magnets.

It was a blast to play with this results, only the mount/ dismount of them was horrible until i found the best solution for me.

I do about half year with all the tests, rewind, another test build new test and so on until i have my Guitar as it is now.

 

 

 based on this results, i will do it the same Way again for the Horse.

I have now wound coils with

28 Windings @ 1mm Wire 

36 Windings @ 1mm Wire

and 67 Windings @ 0,5mm Wire.

 

So the Test of them will may need It’s Time and if i ain‘t succeed, i will redo until they reached my needs.

We will see how they performs.

All coils will be mounted ground free, to use it with an external regulator.

Stefan, I think we need a video of you playing guitar!  Awesome work!  I recall a time I pulled an ignition switch apart to clean the contacts and @953 nut said he’d have likely gone to the store for a new one.  You’re going all kinds of mad scientist on this charging issue, but it’s awesome that you’re willing to figure it out!

Thanks Buddy, i be proud to have my Horse here at my site.

 

Just to go in a store and buy is commonly not my way to go, it depends on what i have to fix and in what timeline.

For my Horse i had no finally timeline, it‘s a continouse Project i do step by step.

I‘m not in a hurry.

So after Hospital and Mom Visit, i soldered 2 wires on each of the Coils shrik them with shrink tubes together, 

and try to implement, but the sunlight allready dims, so i unable to do that today and i stop it for now.

What are your plans for that interesting piece of glass ware you picked up?  A friend of mine grew up in eastern Kentucky.  He has a recipe for 'fortified spring water' that needs water, sugar, corn, yeast, and one of those pieces of glassware for final finishing.

 

What kind of 3d printer do you have?  I'm thinking about getting one.  We had one that I worked with before I retired a couple years ago.  I have also been a mentor for the local high school's FIRST robotics team for several years.  The kids make good use of the school's 3d printers to make some parts for the robot.

Basically i bought it because it‘s a cool piece of Art,

on the otherhand we may be the same idea..

so some day‘s a Year is Moonshine... 😎

I build mine self, it is a prusa based system, i just can suggest to get quick results in short timeline..

i also suggest an enclosure, because biggest enemy in 3 D printing is draft air.

 

it is now my 3rd i built, and each build are grown more.. 

 

The first was 20 by 20 cm and 18 cm in height, that runs for 4 years until i upgraded it

The next workspace is 20 by 35cm and 27cm in height.

the Actual Hardware is able to print 34 by 46cm and 34cm in height.

but i restricted it by the Heatplate and the Glass printbed at the moment to 34x34x34 cm

It get it‘s own Housing of 1,10m x 65 x 60 cm

As hardware for the Electrical system i uses the Ramps board (now V1.4) i used also for some other projects.

with an Arduino Mega since i started this Printer what is for my needs fast enough.

Attached is a modified Display with SD- Card Reader, to be able to print Standallone.

The Ramps Board from another Robot Project.

 

 

As Firmware on my machine acts a hardly modified Marlin version, what i also can suggesting.

The Overheatprotection is made with 2 Heatswitches, where one is below Heatbed and one is Implemented in Printerhead.

both be able to interrupt Main Power from the machine if it‘s overheats on a Fail.

Bot now it is Rocksolid, i did the longest Printjob with 36h continousely.

As drawing Program i use Rhinoceros and as Slicer i use Repetier Host V1.5.4. with Cura Setting.

The Mainmotor for the bed is now increased to an Nema19 with an external driver, because the mass i wanna move with the Printerbed are sometimes too heavy for a Nema17 and results in stepperlosses.

I know it‘s not a clean build, but it is still the Prototype, that run now since 5 years without any Problems.

On the other hand, its better to Maintain.

this machine was built out of mostly Scrap Material, i had laying arround in the time i built.

So several holes was a try, that i changed over the Time for my needs.

 

All the Red, Silver and green printed parts are self printed on the first Prototype and made of PLA.

PLA is my common Printing Material, because it doesn‘t stink while printing in the rooms

and as you see, it‘s stable enough, to last over the Time.( now 5 years on this Machine)

 

another object i try was found in Thingiverse, what i rebuild and playing arround with.

On Monday she moves to rehabilitation centre to Tennessee - huh - ah no i mean Tegernsee - for the next Weeks. 😂🤪

about 50 Km far.

 

My Mom is finally out of Hospital i picked her up and brought her home

She had still some pain but also she‘s healing and recover but with bit over 70 it needs it‘s Time.

She had now a complete pelvic fracture out of the rip before, but it started healing so no surgery is needed.

 

A bit stressy Time for me, but thanks the Lord, so far all turns good.

Because there is actually no Rain, i reworked the New Blades and mount them in the mower deck.

Redrilling 4 holes a bit closer than the originals and...

They fit, dang close to the chassis, but the didn‘t touch anything and seems usable.

they have 3 mm gap curious how they will perform with the Winglets.

 

 

Than i decided to quick built in 2 of my selfmade Coils to give them bit of time to cure.

poped the Flywheel off ( grown more and more a perfect handling in quick dismount and remount flywheels on a Tecky engine)

 

than the moment of truth comes.

Will my coils Fit onto the Engine?

Yes, they will do.

 They fit snug with a minimum on play arround.

To keep them in place, i decide to build another cardboard insert and stick them on.

They need a little pressure to go on and at least i use a bit middletight Loctite to fix em against vibrations.

I decide to hide the wires deep behind the mounting plate, to prevent the will have any contact to rotating parts.

Looks cool with the 2 new Coils. After measuring, i found i have more space to build a bigger one maybe if needed.

the Top end is the Ignition Coil, that don‘t touches the Flywheel. The Gap seems wide enough.

At least i fixed the Wires with zipties, to keep the wires fix in place.

But while it‘s Sunday, i ain‘t annoy the neighborhood with the Tractor, so i decided to give hime another Day to cure

the Loctite. 

Maybe tomorrow i will try how the Coils perform in Voltage and shortcut Current to have a Value what that Coil‘s 

be able to deliver.

 

Actually i inserted following Coils

36 Windings @ 1mm Wire in the Front.

and 67 Windings @ 0,5mm Wire. In the Rear.

As mentioned, i‘m not realy experienced in Charging Coil winding, but it is an interesting experiment,

to improve my knowledge.

 

That will be my Base for maybe another Coil i will prepare, if they don‘t work as estimated.

if i calculated right, i can build a Coil with the 1mm Wire with about 60 Windings.

it‘s another cool learning wich Coil performs in what Way.

i don‘t just build the Guitar Coils i also build the Tube Amplifier Myself.

It was a construction set i build and modify hardly since now.

Ok, some new‘s...

 

the first Coil 1mm Wire delivers just 3,4 V but 25 A Peak.. 😳

the smaller coil delivers

Volts on AC in idle and max. 26V at full Throttle. 👍check

 

A Shortcut measure tells me it is able to deliver up to 6A in Peak. 👍 check2

 

That‘s more than enough for my needs.

i quickly clamp the regulator on aaaaaaaannnddd.

here we go! 

Huston, we have light ! 😇 Bright and shiny.

 

The regulator delivers in idle 13,6V at max of 3A

and in full Throttle 13,8V at a max. of 5A.

Perfect for charge a Gel batt, so a E- Starter is again possible.

 

So my charging solution is succeeded.

 

in fact my estimated Values are Successfully, i‘m happy to see that.

 

My result after a half hour try:

 

If anybody have a need for a charging Coil,

67 Windings with 0,5mm (AWG 24) thick Wire seems a good Coil to start with.

maybe 0,8mm is better but i‘m ok with that.

 

I build the Charging Coil ground free and for the Regulator i used a Windmill regulator that‘s able to support 20A.

The cost for that regulator was „just“ 7$ i found once in the Bay and it was laying arround,

but also Honda Monkey regulators will work with that Charging Coil.

 

The Ampere measuring was done by shortened the Wires via a Clamp Ammeter.

build a new coil winding spool System for thicker Coils with 2 halves.

Simple 4 mm screw keep it together, but i wind it by Hand.

i would do it definitely as a Handcrafted Part not as a „machined“ part,

because i‘m proud of the first Coil that works.

 

On Doing i grab the old transformerspool and wound down 40 Windings on the old transformer,

than i cleaned the Wire carefully with degreaser in hope not to destroy the thin insulation 

it seems it works and the insulation still be kept, but alot of paint could be removed.

1:0 for me .

 

After that i clamped one side of the Wire on trunk coupler of my car and straighten this whole Wire 

by pulling 2 times quick to a gently span.

The wire lay‘s down nearly as a straight and after that i wound it looseley on a empty spool i had laying arround,

to have it not too strong rebended again.

 

As before i previously build a cardboard keeper for the Spool, to be able remove it easier later from spoolholder.

Than i rewind again a new Coil with 76 Windings @ 1mm Wire.

Yap, 76 Windings can be made to reach only that thickness.

The coil also fits snug on previous build Coil mount on a try.

 

because of lack of battery, my Ohmmeter tell‘s me some lies.

ok, i shall maybe replace next day’s the Battery in my Meter.. 😎

To don‘t load the Coil too hard, i decided to rework the Original Wheel Horse rearlamp to LED Version.

 

oooohh, i hear rumours. - take firstly a look at it.

 

I do it as carefully i can, so i‘m able to refit it with the Bulb.

robed carefully the interal copperlayer‘s.

Than i glued 2 LED Stripes in.

One with RGB Leds in Red for Taillight,

one above in bright while for a Brakelight.

 

What you see in was not a epoxy glue, it is the same paint i used for the Coils to prevent corroding by Water

Aaand next step...

 

because i see after hard rain the last few Day‘s lightly oxydation on the tie rod ends,

i decide to change them to Waterresistant Versions from light Cars.

So i mounted them today on and after dismount the Frontwheels, i see there are Ballbearings.

That‘s the great issue, but i also see while lifted frontaxle a wear in the spindles.

i called a friend, if he is able to rework that for me and may bushing it?

He told me yes, but you hopefully not in a hurry otherwise i must pass.

I told him i have time and will be patient until he had more time to do that.

for me it‘s actually not a hurry, but if he can redo, i wanna have it qualified and that needs it‘s time i know that.

 

At least i found few fence post caps, they will fit as Waterprotection caps over the spindle tops,

looks pretty slick and water have no chance further to penetrate my frontaxle Spindles.

After that was done, i did a testdrive with the mole rake.

The first completely non rainy day since a Week.

 

Btw, i love that electric impact wrench i bought, it‘s fairly fix and works perfect for the horse.

the whole change depends just 12 min.

Not too much today,

just mount the new Electric Starter and do a short try if he will work.

Yap, it did, crank nicely.

Than i have a ride arround the Property with the Mowerdeck and pull the rake down to clen up after.

 

 

At least i remounted the reworked Taillight on, but it get‘s now quick too dark to take a Pict from it.

The steering is smooth again with the changed now Waterproof Tie rod ends.

That was a good decision i.m.h.o 

 

think i don’t have this Weekend much Time to work on the Horse,

but i hope i be able to finalize the Whole Electric as next issue.

 

That means 

- mount the Starter Solenoid

- doing a bit a Wire Harness for Charging

- build a Battery mount

- adapt a Fuseblock

- attach the taillight onto Lightcircuit

- Remount the Keyswitch from the pushmower to the Horse.

Than a majority was done for the first Time.

 

Next is build a mount and prepare the Plowshield to be Attached onto the Horse.

i like to have few Options for the Winter to plow.

„The Beast“ is my secure Weapon for Winterservice.

 

New Tyres are allready here  16x 6.50x 8 for the Front and 23x 8,5x 12 for the Rear, 

both are quick offered Deals i agreed. Together i payed about 64€ for all incl. New Tubes,

but i will wait until i be able to sandblast and repaint the Rims before i will mount them.

hopefully i have the next few weeks a bit Time.

 

There be a lot of Tasks, they must be doing in the next Timeline,

because Autum and first part of Winter is not too far away.

Firstly i build a Battery holder out of a Piece of Plastics.

I had the crazy idea, to hide all as good as possible.

No Battery shall be visible from closed hood.

the only thing i build in additionally was a Voltmeter in small what looks pretty cool imho.

 

loaned from the Movie „Back to the Future“ with Doc Emmet Brown

i decide to keep all Electric as hidden as possible.

If something must be technically, why not with Style...

 

So i reworked the Dash how i like it to have.

than i started the implement of a complete new Electric.

i use a small Motocycle Battery with a max CCA of 250Amps, what shall be enough for my needs.

the first tests are pretty good.

i build Solenoid, Keyswitch witch was robbed back from the Pushmower

and fix all up.

Try to save the original Deckwheels.

Rewelded them for a reuse...

 

 

than i prepare the damaged doubleaction Plow, to mount it on the Wheelhorse.

i purchased a massive bigger Steelpipe with 30mm and increased 10mm Wall and welded it onto a flat Steel .

That will become the mount Bar.

 

I have 2 more of the Steelplates, where i rework one and welded it onto the Steelpipe.

after that i grind three marks in as lock position.

i marked few more, but for today i was misquito feed enough.
