yesterday pulled some of the tins off the case 220 for its repainting when whack! 1 got me in the back of the head.  bee stings really don't bother me but this one even today feels like someone hit me with a hammer,  today I found where the nest is it's under the engine tins,  I gave it a quick spray with the useless raid bee spray, this weekend I roll it out and fire it up and let it run for awhile and hopefully roast them out.

Non- chlorinated  Brake Cleaner is the best! Out doors spray paint and a lighter will do in a pinch! :helmet:

worst experience i ever had with a similar flying pest , was removing  a stump, and white faced hornets came pouring out of the surrounding ground . got stung 24 times , could not run or get away fast enough. the following day i gave them a petrol flame out , it went up like a small mushroom cloud , no survivors . my experience, pete

I also had an experience, like Pete did, with white faced Hornets - boy are they territorial and nasty. I have about 120 feet of Privet Hedge in front of the house and I need to trim them about every two weeks late Spring thru the Summer. I noticed a softball sized nest in the center of the large section one morning and figured I would deal with it when I got home after work - surprise !! - it was the size of a basketball when I got home. I wet the hedge with the hose and gave them the old roasty-toasty. It takes its toll on the hedge but worth getting rid of them.

grenade them in , my experience with those white faced hornets , make me think of using an RPG loaded with those hornets , the baddest terrorist would have to run from those , making them a great target , just a thought, pete

2 cans of Brake cleaner would have taken care of that hornets nest without shrub damage. It wipes them out almost instantly! Plus a can with the nozzle can shoot about 10 ft.

My father was allergic to bees. I was working at Napa and 1 Christmas I gave him a case of Brake Cleaner. He says "What's this for?" and I say Bees!! Just crack the door open and shoot the nest from the safety of the Kitchen. Next Christmas he asked for another case. :)

We had a nest at work way up in the brick of an overhead door opening. The guys were shooting bee spray at them and I told them to put the toys away. Got my brake cleaner out of the truck and it was like WWII shooting down zeros. :helmet:

B12 Chemtool in the spray cans works well too. That's all I've ever used around the farm when we find a nest.

Found some yellowjackets in an old feed grinder once, and all I had handy was ether, don't try this I found all it does is piss them off. They chased me back to the truck, after about 20 minutes of them calming back down and returning to their nest I grabbed my cigarette lighter out of my pocket, my can of ether, and went back for round two. They didn't fare as well with my makeshift flamethrower as they did with straight ether

Here’s an “Anything goes” story... I was once out back at a friend’s house and popped the hood of my mud truck to find a nest on the intake.  I dropped trou and sprayed ‘em with everything I had.  It worked!  Not sure what I ate that week that would’a made a senior boy’s urine so potent, but I figured if it didn’t work I can run across the field with no pants :ROTF:

Used to get mud wasp nests in the pole barn.  Daisy Red Rider worked well to knock them down.

Maybe it was "Fantasia" ?  Don't need poison to think you're high if you're watching that one!

They would have been there without the melons.  Had one in my Iris garden last year.  Regular wasp and hornet spray didn't work when sprayed right down the hole.  Emptied a whole can and it killed a few, but the nest was still active the next day.  What did work was some old termite killer.  That stuff is designed to work underground.  Mixed up a batch and snuck out there next night when they were sleeping...  "Surprise attack, killed them in their sleep that night... so castles made of sand fall into the sea... eventually" J.H. Handy Don

When I was younger, bee stings didn't affect me much but last year after getting two stings from big hornets I was surprised at how strongly my body reacted. Decided to sit down to let the dizziness dissipate. We have an exterminator contract and the bee specialist came, suited up, "drugged them" with some sort of aerosol, then put the entire branch with nest into a plastic bag. He told me the company lets the bees die out and then donates the nests to schools as science exhibits. He was glad I hadn't poked at or damaged the one in our bush!

Those white faced hornets are aggressive. One flew into my T shirt sleeve and got 3-4 shots right in the arm pit when I was a kid. Talk about painful
