It is for sure cracked I will get out there again in a little bit and try to take it off. I got tired of getting the glue all off the seat that was under the vinyl that was glued down. I got it off the seat but can not get it off the tractor no matter how many differant solvents I tried. Oh well ... ads to the patina. No chance in hell I am going to try and paint another one. I am also gonna have to find room for it. Gonna be hard to keep all three.

Tractorhead

Nice Rig, sure needs a bit Love and care but not in too Bad Shape at all.

I‘m a Gearhead, so i preferred Shifter instead Hydros.

I have a thousand question but I will start with this one..... why are some C series hoods black and others red?

All the twin cylinders were black, 78 and 79 the single cylinders were red using the old hood style are at least most of them.

On that style hood, I don't think you'll find a black one. Later tractors got the different hood and it was black depending on the year.

I have an original 1979 :wh: brochure with a C-171 on the cover & it's a Black Hood.

But according to the :wh: Model list numbers, :wh: never made a C-171, only a C-161 with a twin Briggs.

The C-175 came out in 1980 with the twin kohler KT17 :confusion-shrug:

I've heard about that... It was in brochure but didn't make it to production...?

Here's a thread on it...

Cool, I never knew any of this.

Well guess what... I just happen to have a couple of 1979 C-Series parts tractors stashed away & a KT17 Series II that runs great !

With a little help from @Vinylguy I think I could pull this off, & while I'm at it why not a swept front axle & gear reduction steering

with these Bad Boys on the back...

 Say one say all? :handgestures-thumbsup:

I’ve decided to start this thread to keep this info together.  It’s about this C-161 I have.

It showed up at my house one day around mid-2021 as a “parts” tractor.

I had no idea this was going to be left at my door, abandoned, tired, unwanted.  I can’t remember a lot of what I was being told about it as I was staring at it wondering why I was chosen, apparently, as the one who was to strip it of it’s organs and transplant them into some other “being”.

By the time those who brought it left, even though I never said it until just now, I knew I was going to attempt to resuscitate her.

No longer an “it” she was certainly worthy of a shot at another life.  16 HP Kohler, Sunstrand Hydro and hydraulic lift!  I had already fallen in love with the C-100 I grew up with that I later inherited, but this girl had something extra, something different about her that I thought was …
      appealing.

Parts tractor?  Not if I can $@%# help it!

She was glistening.  Maybe it had something to do with the rain that day on the ride over.  But she IS glistening!

I can't seem to locate the oil plug on the transmission/hydro of the C161 auto.  Can someone please show me where the heck it is!?!?  I would think it was right on the bottom somewhere near the filter but I do not see or feel anything that looks like a oil drain.....

      Thanks for your help,

Well it was a nice day. And the sun shining through the snow. Makes for a nicer video and whole lot more fun than blowin through a blizzard!  I hope you'll agree. Video of clearing out snow after the storm with my Wheel Horse C-161 manual 8 speed with Snow Thrower Attachment

Hey guys. I'm looking at buying a  c-161 (pictured below) and am of course just learning about Wheel Horses. I have another guy selling the pictured C-105 (I think that's what it is) and he would let it go for $100. It runs but leaks oil from a seal in the tranny.

My question is - Do these two machines share same parts? Are they of the same era? If the motor in the C-161 doesn't work would the motor from the C-105 work in it?

Your help would be much appreciated and depended on!

Additionally, the other option is the C-81. Would you settle rather for that.?

      C-105 $100
C-161 $250 (not running right now)
C-81 with plow, wheel weights and chains $500 (not running right now)

I'm hitting the road today! My son's birthday present wheel horse is due in 2 days.!

      Thanks!
