Thanks all for the comments. The 312 has 530 hours. A relatively easy life too. And heres a pic of my 520. I had some pic on here when I finished that one too. And some before pics of the 312. I would have to look for  better before picture.

Like that matte black finish on the engine, breaks it up and looks real good.

tgalo, great work on both, like the user idea ,instead of trailer queen.  question, on the 520, will you be modifying the rear of your  belt guard with aeration holes to help cool that rear cylinder ?   your work is so clean and detailed , that area stands out.  just my own opinion  , no sarcastic intention implied ,  good work , pete

What are the two gauges on the hood of the 312 ?

Great looking machine, I am currently restoring a low hour 312H and have done 5 520H's.

Pete, no I wasn't planning on any aeration holes. That machine has 640 or so hours and neglected pretty bad. The guy had a tiller on the back and there was hydraulic fluid everywhere under the rear fender. It was a mess but I put it all back to stock. The Onan runs great. On my 312, the two gauges i added are a fuel gauge and engine oil temp. It was around 1990 when I did that. I wanted to leave them out for the restoration but I had the holes to deal with so I just put them back. Terry at redoyourhorse made a special decal for that area that I haven't put on yet.

Cheers

Did you use a gauge and fuel tank from a 520 ?

I am adding a fuel gauge to my 312H because I had the 520 parts here to do it.

Just because I don't want to drill extra holes I am using the hour meter location and mounting a small square hour meter under the hood.

Yours looks good, you could almost replicate the 520 look with some careful drilling.

Only issue would be running the wires.

Honestly I cant remember. I know it wasn't a 520 sender although it was the 520 that inspired the project. It was a universal sender and a SW gauge I got back when we had real auto part stores...lol.  My plan at the time was add a tachometer in the space to the right but I never could find a single cylinder gauge that matched close enough.

You might get lucky and a 520 tach will work as well.

Kohler and Onan used similar charge coils.
