Ahhhhhhh well blow me over rover....I never knew either chevy made a tracktor....sadly like he said the rods were splash oiled and under a constant load the 216 cu.in wouldnt have lasted for sure....but I am very much sure the 1st motor that would have replaced it and yes with gobs more torke even considering it was a gas motor the 292 would have made this prototype a total monster in the day....I think if they did produce it theyd have lowered the rear diff gears even more then what the truck used for some seriouse pulling in the day.....dang come to think of it when i used to circle track I still have a clifford, 4bbl uintake for the ol chevy stove bolts....gave me far better milage and when I opened her up she sounded like a ferarri hahahahah, well with a deep thoat anyways!!!

Very cool! I knew that other auto manufacturers like Ford and Lamborghini made tractors, but I was unaware of GM's attempt. I wonder if Chrysler or other manufacturers tried as well? I'll have to do some research.

I think the splash lube 216 would've lasted longer than you'd think. They lasted in trucks for an adequate amount of time. Our GT's run for hundreds, if not thousands of hours with splash lubrication. Plowing and other tractor-type work generally occurs on relatively flat ground, so oil starvation should't cause an issue.

If they'd come out with the full pressure 235 a bit sooner it would've been a good candidate. Though as Mike said, a 292 would've been a beast.

I know some Chryslers were cut up to make garden tractors, does that count?

You did circle track with a stove bolt?

Ever heard of the Glow Mods, or VROA Mods?

Wow, just finally watched the video.  What a story!  To think such a tough platform never made it to production... it would have shined above the rest for sure!

On our first visit to Germany to see our “German Kid” Jil, her family brought us to a family friend’s tractor farm... I was fortunate enough to cruise a Porsche around with my girls!

GM had their hands in tractors years ago when they bought the Samson brand in an attempt to compete with Ford.

Yep, read about that one in FarmShow magazine a few years back. Never have been much of a GM guy, but I will agree if they could have built one with a 292 in it it would have been a nearly unstoppable machine. Had a 292 in an old 1980 C30 with a 4 speed behind it, didn't get in any hurry going anywhere, but she'd pull just about anything I could hook behind her
