Took a front valance and a couple of other small parts down today. Car has been stripped back to bare metal and

he has put the etching primer on it. High build primer on it and the dings and imperfections fixed. Looks like things

are lining up pretty good. There are three other cars there ahead of this one so i am surprised at where it is right

now. Looks like in a little while can bring frame back here and put engine, transmission, exhaust and all that on

it. Did not take any pictures today.

Thanks Howie for the update.  I remember going into the shop when mine was at the same status...I was so excited. Hard to believe that was nearly 20 years ago.

What are the three other cars ahead of yours?

You mentioned your kids in one of the earlier posts...I’m assuming that they are all adults now.  Are they excited about your car finally getting the attention that it deserves?   You’ve had that thing for about 4 decades...it will be surreal to get it back on the road after the long hiatus👍🏻

That makes me feel not so terrible watching Ole Smokey sit.  It’s been around for about 8 years with no real progress shy of an engine swap or two and a cruise once in a while.  Hopefully this coming summer it’ll get a new clutch, brakes and some new shoes and take a few trips to the race track hauling one of the cars!

The three cars are two 64 GTO's and a 70 SS Chevelle. I know one of the 64's is a Tri-Power car not sure on the other one.

Yeah both kids are adults and have been after dad for a while now to get this done. Both are glad it is now getting done.

Went down to vist an upholstery shop today. It is going to be different getting behind the wheel again even if I think I know

how it used to feel.

Well did not take any pictures last time I was at the shop, but has had the etching primer applied,

primed over that. A lot of the body work done, dings pulled and all that. Worked on a lot of the gaps

so there is progress. Dropped seats off at upholstrey shop today.

I love seeing these progress pics.  Did you pic the spoiler up recently or have you have that for awhile?

I hauled that home from Niagara Falls when they had the show there a bunch of years ago.

It is an original one.

Well we fired the engine today. Things went well, oil pressure good, no

unwanted noises. Weather was nice so decided to do this today.

Will go back and retorque the heads and pull oil filter and cut it open.

Always go into these and wonder if I checked everything. And it did

start immediately.

:text-coolphotos:  that is a thing of beauty!  Same intake that I’m running on my Goat...love the 1.65 roller rockers too.  Those Edelbrock heads should be the “bees knees” as well.  That dude will have some snort for sure.

located a pic of a friends 69 GTO Judge in the background   ... this car was near perfect ... hidden headlamps, factory hood tach, factory ram air system ...  fresh Ram Air III engine we rebuilt during the prev winter

he also ran this for a while in Ram Air IV trim - had the factory Ram Air IV heads, exhaust, cam (?), etc

this pic taken on our way to or from Car Craft magazine Street Machine Nationals in the early 80's

Thanks for the update Howie!  That thing is coming together nicely.  My dad’s 1967 GTO was at that same place summer of 2005.  Hard to believe that was 15 years ago...

This was a fun specialty picture that my daughter took of my car with my dad’s a few weeks ago...

I’m looking forward to your next update...

Look's like a quality restoration so far. Great work!

I'm kinda partial to that 70-72 Chevelle I see lurking in the background. ;)

My first car was a 72 Malibu kinda converted to an SS. Dash, interior, brakes, suspension and badges, more or less.
You know, what the kids in the 80's did. ;)

It was my brothers first car, he sold it to me when I was 15, no motor, no trans.

I made a big mistake selling that car, even though it was only a Malibu in sheeps clothing.

Well this is where I am at this evening.IMG_20200707_194456.jpg.488a16b68702b892f363daeb3f088832.jpgIMG_20200707_194544.jpg.d0e9fcd535db9fa28b61cd704b6ffee1.jpg

Not to happy with how the exhaust fits. This stuff is supposed  to be exact

replicas of the original. You pay enough it should be right.
