I had a Charger 9 and really liked the little Tecumseh engine. If it has any hope I'd try and run it myself. Mine always started really easy no matter the weather, and was better on fuel then a Kohler.

Looks like an easy project for sure.

anyone use scotchbrite pad instead of wet sandpaper ?

I often use scotchbrite pad and WD-40 on metal surfaces ... unpainted motorcycle exhaust pipes ... etc ...

scotchbrite pads are available in different levels of abrasiveness

might work well on the Wheel Horse body parts ???

I used scotch pads and paste wax on the 701 the following year I wiped all the metal down with old drain oil on a rag and left it sun.  it's a sharp looking tractor

OK so I making a little progress today I tightened up all the internals on this 12 horse. Honed it, new rings, lapped the valves. Should be good to go! I did clean  it up some. The tires hold air. The deck for this one is solid. Absolutely no rust so

a little clean up there should do it. Might

need blades.

I ended up tearing this tractor apart and today was 55° so I took it outside and pressure washed every piece. Now I've started the process of sanding with WD-40. Going to clear lacquer everything and put her back together !

Make sure to clean that WD40 real good before you spray the clear!  Soapy water is a great wet medium too :handgestures-thumbupright:

when there rust permiating the surface I have had great success using rust converter. It wipes off paint and raw steel but turns the rust into I think a black oxide or something. With a few coats you quickly sand and primer. I prime till all pits are level with surface then use I good industrial machine paint or one of the tractor manufacturer company paints. Might has to alter the red colouring a bit to match the wheel Horse colour.....Hmmm Massy Ferguson, International. hmmmmmwho else had red tractors?

I purchased a quart of "International Harvester" red from Rural King. I removed the side decal from the hood from my 312-8 (to get the virgin paint color never exposed to sun and faded) then put a dab of it on this new surface. After drying, it is nearly impossible to see the difference between the two colors, so it's as close a match as one can reasonably get.

OK so here's an update on the charger

10s . Was going to do a patina look but between the two tractors some of the parts needed some repairs. So in order to make the repairs I had to do some welding. So I figured I would have to do some repainting as well and decided to do a complete repaint got started cleaning parts today.

Plus I have a 12 horse in my collection that I am going through and doing a quick cleanup with new rings and honing the cylinder and lapping the valves.

Making a little progress slowly but surely on this one the transmission took the longest the motor was done before that now I just got my dash decals from

@Vinylguy! Greatly appreciate it Terry. Got it all together and I actually have the original cigarette lighter in working condition! All I had to do was clean it up a little.
