Welder’ up!

Recommended Posts

Pullstart

I really enjoy welding.  I’m used to the occasional slag on my head, or arms.  This morning, a hot piece of slag found it’s way through the hole in my jeans, down my boot and to the top of my foot!  I am not a very graceful dude, but the dancing I was making up could’ve landed me a dancing with the stars gig!  I’m sure they need another stage crew guy, maybe a speaker carrier or something.

Actually I danced around, kicked it out with my other foot and kept welding 🥴. Nobody ever claimed I was the brightest bulb in the shed!

Been there. Done that. Got the T shirt. Good few years ago, using the gas axe to cut of some bolt heads and nuts, one dropped down inside my Rigger boot. The darn thing got wedged halfway along the top of my foot and boot. No way could I kick the boot off. I had a lovely blister for days and a burn scar for years.

Nothing quite like the lovely aroma of burnt flesh and the excruciating pain from a third degree burn.

Clothing made from synthetics melts into the burn, keep refillable plastic lighters and book matches out of your pockets they've been known to explode or ignite.

Clothing often will do the slow smolder, don't worry you'll smell the smoke long before the flame erupts.

Those cheap welders caps they used to give away actually protected the hair on your head from being burnt near the scalp, at the end of the day not wearing the cap you could comb out handfuls of loose hair.

The first thing you'll learn about those nasty hot slag burns is that they instantly cauterize.

Kevin, thanks for the safety tip,  :handgestures-thumbupright:        of course you know that none of us will learn from your experience, we would rather make our own mistakes.
