Mickwhitt 4,138 #78 Posted November 15, 2019 Shot blasting is our generic term for cleaning metal but firing media at it using compressed air. Not sure if there are stress relieving aspects to it. The bonnet looks good and I will put it to one side till it's time to paint it. I've painted the underside of the seat tray in black gloss as a corrosion protection measure. Mickwhitt 4,138 #80 Posted November 18, 2019 Finally started to put some red paint on the seat tray, looks good but a few more coats yet to get it as I want. I'm not doing a showroom job but I do want it to look pretty tidy. I am brush painting the tray but I think I may spray the bonnet before attaching it. Not sure as I dont have an indoor space I can spray in. A bit of dry weather would help out here lol. Busy day tomorrow with meetings for the community group. Mickwhitt 4,138 #84 Posted November 23, 2019 I think that will be the best bet, I sprayed the final coat indoors but it was not ideal. Just the hood to do now and the footboard. Then it's time to gas her up.and get the engine running. Not sure about that yet but I will try to get the carb set up before I try to fire her up. Any advice on first time starting after a rebuild? Stormin 9,975 #85 Posted November 23, 2019 (edited) Fitting a primer bulb between tank and pump will get fuel through, without a lot of cranking. Or remove air filter and spray petrol into the carb, while turning the engine. You'll find carb settings in the manuals. Not sure off hand. Maybe 2 turns main and 1-1/4 idle. Mickwhitt 4,138 #90 Posted November 24, 2019 So, carb set to the initial settings as per the manual. Fuelled up, primed, choke on, press the starter....... Cranks over, float chamber fills..... She fires, she runs! Bit lumpy, bit of back firing but she runs. I can move on to finishing the details and making Fred looking good. I had a strip of edging strip left over and put it on the bonnet closure lip, looks neat and the bonnet closes beautifully. 2 5 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I have a machine shop under my supervision at work, but it would be really nice if I had those capabilities at home. My property does not lend itself to building a shop, and my basement isn’t big enough to handle the machines I want. That is one of the reasons I still work, when I could have taken full retirement 3 years ago... i cannot see myself ever being without a milling machine and a metal lathe. I'm self taught other than a short six year stint as a diesel mechanic at my local authority. I'm very happy with my machine shop and love making parts for my various projects. I could not manage without my lathes and mills. More rain here so no outdoor work for now, ground is saturated and slow draining clay so will take a while to dry out. To bring this back to tractors, I cleared a culvert just over my property line in preparation for a hurricane only to have the property owner threaten a lawsuit and arrest., I thought I was doing a community service. Now the neighbor across the road is aging and is developing some serious medical issues, my tractors take care of snow removal and now leaf pickup. We never talked about what needed done, I just do it. Other neighbors don't hit a lick and don't even maintain their own property. 2 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Did not offer to help at all but wanted it all his way. Soon told him how things were going to be. Fred my WH will clear paths and drives as well as work on our community land.
