Anyone found a fix for this too short dipstick?

I am in the process of rebuilding/restoring a 1994 416-8.

The transmission has a tube/dipstick combo that the user is supposed to use to check the fluid level.

The problem is the dipstick sets right on the top of the tranny and the hole in the seat pan is about 4 inches above it.

So, unless you have REALLY skinny and long fingers you can reach it without using the square hole in the center of the seat pan. (which is really a PITA if you have arthritis)

I know they make a longer tube and dipstick combo because I have seen the top of the dipstick sticking out of the hole on some models

Anyone else had the problem and can recommend a "workaround"???

Yes, I'll trade you a long tube and dipstick for your shorty stuff.

The long ones don't work well on customs so I usually cut them down. Might as well let someone use the one on the trans that's just sitting there waiting.

Until your trade comes through - I use a pair of long bent nose needle pliers like these...works like a charm.

That's one mean lookin' tool.  I'd try that but they don't trust me with sharp objects

Maybe you could increase the hole size in the fender pan while you’re at it?  The ones I have with fenders that don’t flip forward or backward seem to have a smaller than ideal access anyways.
