Just some perspective to keep @ebinmaine’s honor in tact… :teasing-signhere:

 

According to multiple innerweb resources it took 12 years to complete the Original Colossus of Rhodes…  (on the web so it must be true…) :handgestures-thumbupright:

 

Post 1 of this thread was August 31, 2019. So really, when August 31, 2031 rolls around, we should get nervous… I mean, even with BBT, we can’t expect this beast - what will become the 8th Wonder of the world - to take less time than the original can we…? :confusion-confused:

I think a generator from a car may do the trick. 

 

I once had a small Briggs with electric start. a new started was $150 so I would always start it with my big drill. worked very well.

 

Probably September 1983 is when your engine was made. It still has the 9 digit code. 10digit codes are a lot easier to decode.

Do you know where to find the information about decoding from the '60s and '70s?

 

This generation of engines started back in the 50s at some point but I think they would have had an oil bath air filter then.

I have a manual for it but nothing else I know after 1984-5 Kohler started  using 10 digit numbers. With those you got to take the first two digits and add 70. So 15 would be 1985. That is what they told me, Have yet to test rather this is true or not.

 

No joke, I have been searching over an hour online trying to find a proper way to date your Kohler, but nothing really helped even tried via your starter. NO luck there. :eusa-think:

Kohlers aren't as nearly as easy as Briggs to date. :scratchead:

 

Isn't their a sticker somewhere? with spec and model number?

There was at one point but the only thing readable on it was 36202. I can't remember if that was the spec or the model but every other stamping or printed number on the label was long gone.....

That is the spec number.

 

36202 is the basic version. Not specifically made for an other brand.

Yeah that sounds familiar. I remember being told that it was a "Counter engine" or multiple use and was likely not installed in any particular piece of machinery when it was new.

The BBT spent more time cleaning up the nasty off the powerplant for this beast. Tossed a goodly bit of acetone around. 

 

We looked at an old thread about flywheel magnets and how to reattach them.  

ALL 6 of these were easily removed. 2 were loose. 

We checked the polarity and lined them up to be glued in sometime soon.

Line em up end to end in a circle and that's 18 changes of polarity which I assume perhaps gives one 36 volts????

You should have 18 post on the stator 15 amp. output. I have tested as much as 41 voilts AC.

The number of magnets in combination with the stator coils determines the number of current reversals per rotation of the flywheel.

I'm guessing 18 coils on the stator so 9 "plus" and 9 "minus" pulses per rotation. In tech-speak, that's 9 hertz at 60 RPM (vs. 60 hertz for your household AC current).

The size of the magnets and number of windings in the coils determines the voltage/amperage of the output.

Number of poles only determines the frequency of the AC output,  that and the speed of rotation.

 

Output voltage is a function of the number of turns, and strength of the magnets.

Got a gasket kit today from isavetractors. 

I chose his because it was the kit WITH FIRE RINGS on the cylinder head gaskets at the best price. 

 

I did take a few minutes to remover the valve covers and clean up the gasket surfaces.  

I'll figure out how to check the valve lash tomorrow. 

 

If anyone knows where I can find an engine manual I'd appreciate it.
