The "Colossus" project

We got the engine stripped down as far as I'm going to take it except maybe to pop the fuel pump off. Meeha Mirror helped out where she could.

The Paint Department spent a few hours hand sanding and wire brushing followed by a wash with the acetone.

Then when the wind finally calmed down after dark she sprayed some paint.

Found the casting stamp on the block. If anyone knows how to decode this I'd be curious to know what year it is. 1973(?) 1983(?).

@gwest_ca?

Here's the engine in it's current state:

She was gonna make the flywheel a bit darker for more contrast to the outer screen.

That can was not spraying so she just went to the next shade...

Worked out well.

EB.  If you don’t mind, could you see if the starter has any part numbers or identification on it, and where it bolts on?  My big monster Kohler is cool having hand crank start, but odds are I won’t enjoy that forever.  Flywheel and a starter might be all I need, maybe the engine tins?

I guess then again, I’d need a charging system like the stator too.

Or like @Achto has mentioned, a one wire Chevy alternator could hide somewhere as well.

We need to clean that off so we can repaint it so I'd be happy to check for stamping numbers.

I'll see if I can get any info for you.

I don't know if a starter generator would have the torque to move something like this?

That would save you trying to get the flywheel and starter....

@Pullstart

Here's a picture of the back of the starter that shows the casting numbers.

Not sure if it would be a great viable option given consideration that the starter Mount itself is actually part of the oil pan.

I'd wonder... Would an old style S/G have the power to turn one of these?

If so that would be fairly simple.

If you wanna get silly about it you could mount a small electric start donkey engine somewhere.

Uhm…

A dude named:

@Pullstart

Has a :wh: motor with an electric start…? I don’t think the :law-policeblue: are gonna let that slide…  :snooty: :hand: :angry-nono:

Now @ebinmaine has an acceptable alternative. A pull-start Predator as a starter motor meets applicable :law-policeblue: standards… :handgestures-thumbupright:

Either that or you get out the lederhosen and change your name again… which is not advisable due to the resultant disturbing visuals… :scared-eek:

Yes...yes, thank you. Just what I need. Another poker on the fire.

I am curious to see how far I can get with the rest of the parts I got from you @ebinmaine
