I use sae 30 in every kohler i own all year around and have never had an issue. so did my late dad. but according to most kohler manuals for the old single and twin cylinder engine what he said is what is recommended. My late dads theroy was even in the winter your engine will get hot and getting hot the lighter oil will break down faster. i run 10w30 in 1 small engine but that is in a john deere x540 that was my late dads.
