Electric Clutch Question 212-6 Kawasaki 12.5

Recommended Posts

The charging gauge shows about 13 volts while engine is running at 3100 RPM when I engage the blades with the electric clutch the gauge drops to about 11 Volt.  Is this normal?  If I mow for about 1 hour could it drain the battery?

The electric clutch should not pull more than the charging system puts out.

Have you had the mower for long? Have you ever had issues with it draining the battery and it not starting after mowing?

I'd question the accuracy of the gauge on the dash if that's what you're going off of. Hook a multimeter to it and see if you get the same results. If its holding 12+ volts when its mowing, I wouldn't worry much about it.

Electric clutches do draw quite a few amps. 2 volts of voltage drop is not unreasonable.

The old horizontal shaft Electric PTOs drew 3.5-4.4 amps (per WH TSB).  A fully functioning Charging system should be able to handle that and maintain over 13 volts running.  Is your battery weak? and as Jonah points out how accurate is you volt meter...use a multi meter with out the PTO engaged you should be at least 13.5 running...
