K161 on 753 starts then dies - fuel leaking at carb bolt?

Recommended Posts

Hey all I’m trying to get my 753 running. I’ve cleaned and flushed the fuel bowl/valve at the tank, replaced fuel filter and spark plug. The engine starts and then chokes out and dies. I see fuel leaking at the bolt that holds the carb bowl on. It has a metal washer is this supposed to be rubber?

I did undo the bolt and drop the bowl and blew carb out with compressed air, re-tightened this bolt but it still leaks and dies out. I also verified it’s not leaking from the bowl seal. Any ideas?

Would that cause it to leak from that bolt?

I looked at float it’s moving freely and not filled with gas from what I could tell.

Fuel is dripping out of here at a good rate, not a slow drip and it’s snugged up good.

It's probably a soft plastic .

Not sure exactly what the stockers are made from .

Were it me , I'd be slipping a copper banjo bolt washer in there .

Thinking about it :teasing-signhere: The copper / brass and aluminum would probably react with each other and make a big flippin mess .

A HDPE body washer from the R/C car would be going in there .

Float should be 11/64" from the body of the carb.  the gasket you are looking at seems to be made out of some plasticized fibre.  Over haul kits are cheap on Ebay and they give you a new gasket

I don't think it has anything to do with the float, it is not sealing tight between the bowl and the jet ( bolt ).

Is that jet bolt supposed to have a rubber washer or metal?

I think the washer is some kind of fiber or gasket material, any thing that is pliable should work though, good luck.

Carb bowl bolt gasket is the red one in the picture.  Comes with most carb kits for about $10  or you can buy it separately 200375-s for about $5

Sounds good thanks, I’ll replace that and see if it wants to start and stay running.

Sometimes the bowl gets pushed in around the bolt.  You can tap it back out flat with the handle of a hammer or such from the inside.

Ordered up the rebuild kit, got it running the idle is just set really low thats why it was dying, had to snap the throttle a bit to wake it back up after sitting so long. Set screw for idle is bottomed out, cant adjust the idle any higher. Thing runs good doesn't burn any oil or smoke, surprised how good this thing moves along.
