Hydrostatic Motor Question

Recommended Posts

ricky115

Hi from a newbie...I have a 1973 18 automatic the thing runs great and is a stong tractor, lately i have noticed an oil leak coming from what i believe is the hydrostatic motor mounted on the transaxel, while its in use no leak, when i park it,it drips. No slippage i just check the fluid. Does anyone know if there is a gasket kit for the unit or is it a bigger problem? Rick

Yes, the gasket is still available. It's Toro part number 102759. Removing it will require more parts on reassembly though, such as the manifold o-rings, etc... In addition- the most important this for you to do is keep the work COMPLETELY clean. One tiny piece of grit, and your hydrostatic system can be completely destroyed. Repairing that can be VERY expensive and difficult.

Here's one of many online locations to find your parts: 1973 18 auto parts

Good luck,

Kevin

Hope it's a good experience for ya.

I would de-grease and clean the tansaxle as much as humanly possible before tearing it down. Like I said before- ANY contaminates in the pump can destroy it. Just remember that the filter on these things is AFTER the pump, so by the time it traps anything it's already been through the whole circuit.

Good luck!

Kevin
