Sweet corn seed preference

Recommended Posts

6wheeler

Hi all. Just sitting around sipping a cold one and planning the gardens for this year. The last couple of years I have been having trouble with the sweet corn seed I have been able to get here. I have not ordered any from the "seed" houses. I have used the Burpee and Livingston seed available locally and have not been impressed. I was thinking of looking into some of the seed catalogs. Any ideas on particular seed brands? Or, what variety you prefer? We plant 65 to 90 day varieties now.  Any help would be appreciated.   Pat

I have not grown corn since the early 1990 s but it was always Harris seeds from I believe Rochester N.Y, Silver Queen was one and for Yellow corn I can not remember the variety, they were recommended by my neighbor who were farmers for several generations, hope you enjoyed that cold one.     Jim

I have been impressed with the germination rate and flavor of "Silver Queen".

I agree, but have you ever tried " bodacious" from Gurneys?....ears are only 8 inches long, but you can't beat the taste...
