Winter trail ride

Recommended Posts

Sparky

I got out today for a ride, but found a couple huge trees came down near the stream crossing and there is just no way around em. So until I can motivate myself and my neighbor (his land) to get out there with a chainsaw my rides will be super short.
Started to snap pics thinking I would have enough to be worthy of a thread. Suppose this is a good spot to put em :handgestures-thumbupright:

So Jim @JCM ....thanks for resurrecting this thread. It motivated me. I got myself up off the couch and said no downed tree will keep me outa the woods! Headed back in for a second attempt.
Of course access to the back section of the woods is tough when the stream crossing is blocked, so it involved quite a bit of bushwhacking and carefully driving along the edge of a small pond. But so worth it!!!
DISCLAIMER: If ya don’t like the Blackhood series just move along

Nothing at all wrong with a black hood. that was the first model that attracted me to WheelHorse ! Mine is spending the winter in Mass for storage reasons so no winter trail rides this year. Sometimes it's tough to get back up off the couch and layer up to go out in the cold, but I do it on a regular basis.

If I could ride trails like that, I'd have no problem, bundling up and enjoying myself :auto-layrubber:

How many hours drive are you from there to here ?   @rjg854     :happy-partydance:     Don't forget, the Cabin out back has a woodstove and all the comforts of home. Complete with Apple pie on the window sill, right Mike.

brings back great memories

when I was younger rode our 704 in the woods a lot - including light snow conditions

used it to keep trails open and open some new trails

most times it was me and one friend on a small farm tractor - and sometimes with his two dogs accompanying us

one time we spent an afternoon in the woods I had a spray can of ether in my coat pocket that we had used to start an old snowmobile ... apparently the spray button was hit a number of times because part of my coat was soaked with ether ... not good lol

Nice Woods photos !

I wish we had as little snow as you do. We'll have to wait a couple months or more to get into the forest at this point.

Time to wrap up the Colossal project!:handgestures-thumbupright:

Ah, I know this area well. Born and raised in Sodus. Stepdad and I still come up to Montezuma every year to bow hunt- his buddy has 10 acres right smack in the middle of the bird preserve/state land.

These pics of snow and all the northeast stuff still makes me homesick and Ive been in NC for almost 14 years......

Mike nice Putter. I have my eye on a B60. I do not know why but always wanted one. Enjoy the tractor.

This is the first time the 312-8 has been on a trail ride. I use this as my regular mower so after the deck came off for the Winter I took a couple of laps around in mostly 3rd gear using the throttle for speed control. Sun came out after lunch so why not. Amazing how this M12 runs the same as it did in 1989, smooth, quiet and hardly any fuel consumption. This may not be the most desirable model in the WH lineup but what a bullet proof dependable little red tractor. If for some reason the herd needed to be sold off this would be the last to go.

echo your comments on the 312-8

had our 312-8 since the mid / late 90's - and has not missed a beat since then ...  zero issues

would be the last to go

Looks like warmer temps and rain in the forecast so I figured might as well take a trail ride and check the trails. Seems the Deer, Bobcats and coyotes are enjoying them as well. On page # 1  post  # 19 there is a picture of the brook full bore and I am thinking we may see that with what awaits us including power outages. We shall see.

I’m jealous...can’t quite get out in the woods just yet with the C-105. I suppose with a set of chains I could get out and back.

You need a half track with front skis.

Correct. That is why I always like the 606/607 I had.

Sad to say none of my tractors have been out for about 6wks. Have thought about a run down the bridleway past my abode, but the far section is a mud bath. Not worth the cleaning for a 15 minute run.

I just came in from a Winter/ Fall/ work/trail ride but with no pics, does that count. Trails on the house side were leaves pine needles and still snow on the sides of the trails from plowing and the back side of property were still in their winter mode with a slight covering of the white stuff. Did not chance crossing the brook because of the ice covering and may have not been easy going over or coming back. Took down some small hardwood leaners from the storm/branches etc with the chainsaw. Trail maintenance continues. Nice reflection Mike.

Trina and I walked most of our trails with her mom and a friend yesterday.

Tractor would get through most places.

Sooooo many small to medium branches down. Couple big trees too. More clean up and firewood for next year.
