Ahhh....

Any chance of getting some pics sometime?

As Paul stated above, if that thing runs, the ignition module is definitely worth something.

I will work on that of you and post some pics this weekend.  I am going on a haul tomorrow after work.  Going to Westchester.

I've already pulled the horse on the first trip.  A 414-8 and some parts.  This trip is will be to pickup an Economy Tractor and Toro Reel Mower.

I have a C160 parts tractor that has this large overhead valve or ignition tecumseh on it. At least thats what l believe it is.  I have been wrong once or twice.  I had considered trying to mount it on the short frame that your picking up.  That idea was short lived.

That may be so, its on a C160 but i am not sure it's original to the tractor.

The only Wheel Horse with  16 HP Tesumseh  had a HH160-170019 year model 1974. That is according to the model list posted here on RS.The overhead Tesumseh was a OH160-170019.

Now it could have been built by Wheel Horse as a Prototype and found it's way out of the factory. I've heard this tail before, no way to confirm this. We all know Wheel Horse used up older parts they didn't throw things out because they started a new model. Please check the model number to see what tractor it was.

Wheel Horse did use the Tecumseh OHV 16 in a C-160 and used different hood hinge brackets to raise the hood.  There ia a pic of one in the 1974 brochure.

Got me kind of curious now to see if that was an original Tecumseh tractor....

See what you think. There are no tags on the engine.  I was able to get it to fire but that was awhile ago. The PO told me it was a 16HP.

@Herder

Adam I am no Tecumseh expert but that certainly looks like what I would expect to be in that tractor.

@pfrederi or @squonk, @formariz

if that engine is original to that tractor I would think that that is a fair amount more rare than one with a Kohler. I do know that they were installed by Wheelhorse because they were unable to procure enough Kohler engines that year.

Whatever other Techy experts we have around here. What are your thoughts?

c

Check the Wheel Horse model number to see if it's "1-0385" According to the model list it's not a C160, but a "C-162" the engine is listed as a "Tecumseh HH160-170019" built one year only "1974".

If it works the ignition module is worth money

we have a 12hp tecumseh on my daughters workhorse 800. i mounted on there when i was 17 i am now 37. it smokes like a freight train if we dont run sae 50 and a hint of 80 90 gear oil in her but she is still running strong just smokes. LOL it is a good old cast iron motor! it also has a kohler carb on it. i got tired of messing with the factory carb years ago. saying all that i just told my daughter this summer i think it about time to retire the old 12hp tech. i have a old 17 hp kohler i think i may mount on it. this tractor was used to pull many years ago and the frame is cut up so i dont mind mounting a different motor. its a beast with the motor that it has on it now tho!

Can't say as I blame you there. I really like the Kohlers so far.

I do have to admit that that c-160 you have is pretty neat though.....

We have two 8s and a 12 and soon to be a 16....

And then there's that 23 horse Kohler twin sitting outside that I know next to nothing about.
