Had to do more to 552

Elkskin's mower junkyard

So the first k181 I stuck on 552 was a dud. Smoked like a freight train on startup. A friend gave me a k181 off a 1975 cub. I changed oil pan and set it up for the wheel horse. Found stuck valve easy fix because he couldn't get it running. Bore looks awesome std bore with cross hatches slightly visible. Got it running no smoke runs good. So I got rid of the green and got carried away with paint. Umm only did top side of fenders for now. Want to brighten it up a bit because I do plow peoples drives in winter time. I put temp cover over vr from a Chinese vr so I can paint the Delco cover

CMF:

Where did you find the aluminum fuel tank?  Is thus a WH item, custom fab job or did you retrofit it to your tractor from another garden tractor?

Good luck with your build.  Looks like it's moving along.

Cheers!

That style tank is factory on the 61 and 62 models and then they became a 2 piece aluminum tank on the 63 and 64 models.

I do believe it's an original tank with the paint removed.  I've seen it before.  Been thinking of doing it myself to my 854. Strip the paint, polish it, then clear coat. I think it adds a nice touch.

Huh.  How about that.    By all means I'm no expert on WHs and I learn something new everyday.  Thanks for the insight on the aluminum tank.   I kinda figured it was a custom job from a speed shop or something like that...!  It could be a real eye popper when it gets stripped and polished.

Anyway, always glad to file away a few more tidbits of knowledge in the cranium.

Cheers and Merry Christmas fellas!

Dave
