Dan693 510 #1 Posted December 14, 2018 Making some progress on the K482 rebuild. Bored out 30 over and getting a lot of the little stuff taken care of. Question.......any thoughts on a gear drive tractor for this 18 HP Kohler? Horizontal shaft of course. It came off of a D-180 which is all hydro. I've heard a few times lately that the D's are hard to find parts for and pretty difficult to service and repair. I know of the JD400 and the Bolens HT which are both hydro drive as well. Mainly any geared transmissions that can handle 18+ HP. Should end up around 25 HP when I'm done with it. The WH D's are my real interest but starting to think the massive hydro drives could be a real pain to deal with. Thanks for any thoughts
WVHillbilly520H 10,369 #2 Posted December 14, 2018 Any gear drive as there were a few C and 4/500 series with opposed twins for power.
953 nut 51,541 #3 Posted December 14, 2018 I wouldn't be at all hesitant to use it on any eight speed. The 8 HP Wheel Horses used the same transaxle as the ones with a Kohler Twin on the C-175. 01-08K802 1981 C Series Garden Tractor C-81 8-Speed Kohler K181S-30743D 8 Wheel Horse 103916 01- 10K802 1981 C Series Garden Tractor C-105 8-Speed Kohler K241AS-46812D 10 Wheel Horse 103916 01- 12K802 1981 C Series Garden Tractor C-125 8-Speed Kohler K301AS-47742 12 Wheel Horse 103916 01- 12KE02 1981 C Series Garden Tractor C-125 Automatic Kohler K301AS-47742 12 Eaton 1100-032 01- 14K802 1981 C Series Garden Tractor C-145 8-Speed Kohler K321AS-30373D 14 Wheel Horse 103918 01- 14KE02 1981 C Series Garden Tractor C-145 Automatic Kohler K321AS-30373D 14 Eaton 1100-032 01- 16K802 1981 C Series Garden Tractor C-165 8-Speed Kohler K341AS-71311A 16 Wheel Horse 103918 01- 6KE02 1981 C Series Garden Tractor C-165 Automatic Kohler K341AS-71311A 16 Eaton 1100-032 01- 17K802 1981 C Series Garden Tractor C-175 Twin 8-Speed Kohler KT17S-24143 17 Wheel Horse 103916
pfrederi 17,129 #4 Posted December 15, 2018 That K-482 is a lot heavier than any of the KT series twins used on WHs You may want a 520-8 with gear reduction steering.
