has anyone ever used tubless tire valve stems for this application? if you trim off the valve core part after application would the inner part of the stem be too thick? just a thought

I have use the 3/4" ones for hood bumper against the frame. They were a little thick when I put them in but they have deformed and still doing a good job 20 or more years later. I think the standard car size is 5/8". 

The 3/4" ones were used in a 64 Ford pickup we had. My guess is that it would work if they will stay in place.
