44" 2-Stage Assembly Questions

Recommended Posts

WHMan2012

I see there are a lot of threads on this site about these Snow Blowers, but can't seem to find good detailed photos on ( From Ground Up Assembly ! ). I was able to pick my model # 79361 up back in July and I'm glad I did, because this poor thing needed major attention all around. From missing a bunch of parts / pieces ( that I found out later on ! ) to a bent up impeller, rusted and a cracked tub. Until now I've only had the single stage snow throwers, but always wanted the 2-stage, because I help the neighbors out around me. One gentleman who's an elderly Veteran, another women who suffers from Lyme disease and the elderly lady across from us who just lost her Veteran husband last Spring and being a Veteran myself, I wouldn't think of saying no, as would any descent person. So, anyways when I got the call on this unit, I jumped ( Too Fast, I think lol ! ), right on it, due to the fact I've been searching since last Fall. Anyways, I have the PDF manual, but it's either too dark or too light or doesn't give a good enough for me description of where certain parts go. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time in advance.

These later manuals should be good copies but don't know if there were subtle changes made to the unit. Click on the pictures and download from that page

I bought a basket case two stage for my 520H.  I ended up doing a complete rebuild. It was well worth the effort, this blower is fantastic.  Take it one step at a time and post questions here, we can help.

I recommend replacing the auger shaft bearings with cam lock bearings.  Not expensive and a great upgrade.  Also consider paddle extensions on the impeller, it really helps throw the snow.

I have lots of pictures of mine, post if you need some.

Good luck with your project.  Keep us posted with lots of pictures, we love pictures.

Where do I find the Paddle Extensions, who's selling them or are you guys making them up yourselves ? Thanks for the Downloadable file as well, I'll be working on it some more this weekend, hoping to get it finished or spinning over by Thanksgiving. I ordered the cam lock bearings already, they should be here by Monday hopefully. Had a machinist down the street make me up a new main auger shaft, min was broke right on the shear pin hole and someone tried to weld it, but for a $100.00 I have no worries about that now. Where are you guys buying those spring loaded chain sprocket idlers from ? Thanks again, I'll post pictures this weekend and show you what I've been up against up here.

I made my own paddle extensions from 1/8" steel with 1/16" clearance, but most use rubber sheet.  Secure them to impeller blades with screws.  Lots of videos on YouTube about this.

I usually use idler sprockets from Tractor Supply.  They are for #40 chain which is quite common.  I get the chain there too.  But lots of places on the net sell them.

Here is a picture of my metal impeller paddle extensions.  Most use rubber for this, but I'm a metal guy.

That last photo is what I'm hoping for. The metal extensions didn't mess with the impeller as far as vibrations ? I'll check TSC tomorrow for the idler sprocket. I noticed that you also installed a piece of sheet metal inside your shute and I have two questions for you. Did a make a world of difference no matter what kind of snow ( Wet or Fluffy ) and the other question is how did you anchor it in there / ( Weld or Bolts ? ). One more question I have is, I saw that some other tractors have the turn/ lock cable control on their shute deflector ( up or down motion ) so they can stay seated during operation. Has anyone come up with anything similar for these tractors ? Thanks again the help and the photos, hopefully more playing less shoveling this Winter.

I was concerned about that too.  So I was careful that the thee extensions are exactly the same size and the bolts are in the same place.  In the end, the vibration stayed about the same as it was before.  Later I added a center support to the auger gear box and that took almost all of the vibration out of the auger.

I was thinking about doing this as well, surprised they didn't come through with this support in place or as an option at least. Where you guys during the production meetings lol. The pictures you guys post really help out as well and I do thank you for taking the time to post them. One part that I'm still missing is the lift control / spring assist mount that sits in the front tach-matic .  I think I can make one ok if I had a few measurements and a good photo of one so I can get the angles right, but if someone out there has a spare, let me know your price and shipping and hopefully we can work something out. I also had my machinist friend down the street make up a new set of steering linkages for my tractor out of some tool steel and new swivels. The old ones didn't look like they were going to be up for the task of hauling the weight of the blower around this Winter.

Is this the part you need?  This is from my blower, so I don't have a spare, but I might be able to get some dimensions.1964420972_TwoStageLiftArm.jpg.896df9cc4da49dc3b87b493d96c93f10.jpg

Ok, not a problem. I have enough to do until then. Tomorrow I'm bringing my cam lock bearings down to my machinist so he can make the spacers I need to install the bearings with. I can't believe all the help and knowledge I've already had so far, thanks again to everyone, it's greatly appreciated.

Sorry to take so long responding, Yesterday got crazy.  Anyway, here is a picture and some chicken sketches.  Hope they help.  If I missed a dimension, just ask and I'll see what I can measure.  This is a tricky part to get accurate numbers on, especially when its mounted.  I did the best I could.

Good Luck

WOW !!! Thank You For Such A Detailed Drawing, I really Appreciate It. I'll Be Making One This Weekend. I'll be dropping off the bearings today to have parts machined up so I can install my auger hopefully this weekend as well. then I can work on the paddle extensions before I place the shute back on. I'm finding that the small stuff, ie: nuts, bolts, washers, pins etc.. add up fast. lol.

You sent more than I need, Thank you very much for taking the time and with great detail, I really appreciate it. Now I can make one this weekend and from the sounds of it, I should have the spacers by the end of the week so I can start assembling / installing the auger parts back together as well.
