wheel horse model B-80 carburetor adjustments

Recommended Posts

hello everyone it seems i have been taking time off from the restoring of these find old tractors  after i sold off the so called no name horse made back in 73 ;but after that i think i did good as in a trade of a few others ;a model 1076 with a plow and deck ;with the auto transmission  with the hydro lift plus a 1972 commando 8 but the motor smokes bad even when started oil shoots out of the muffler so i am gong to try that mystery oil then if that does not work a rebuild/but  even with the fuel pump not working i gravity fed the fuel line straight to the carburetor and the old thing started up  the question i have is  a 1974 B-80 with  the 8 horse motor as i really do not know the correct settings for the carburetor as which screw is for what and how many turns.really i have never been any good as setting these so any help would be great'plus on more question seeing how most stores do not sell the A-transmission fluid what do we use in the place of it for our older 69-plus automatics

The screw on top is the high idle about a turn and a half out

Side screw is the low idle maybe a couple of turns out

That should get you started and adjust from there.

I mostly go by the sound the engine makes and how it's running

Me too

Bring it to about 1/2 throttle or a little more and let it get hot.

Then adjust VERY slowly up/down until correct.

Then adjust the idle screw... At idle of course.

Takes a bit of practice and you'll develope an ear for it.

What did you need?

Initial setting or troubleshooting?
