what hub puller works the best for my 61 401

these hubs moved to end of shaft then stopped moving all together

First, tap your hubs back on (toward the trans body) then take a flat file or a 4" grinder and file any burrs on the end of the axles.  If you have a spare hub, or if one of yours does come off, you can make a hub puller out of that.  These work the best, as a regular puller has a tendency to break hubs.  Do a search for hub pullers...you will see what it takes.  :handgestures-thumbupright:

thanks Steve! I have two transmissions so I am hoping to make one good one be great to make two good ones ! but like your video's you never know whats inside!

Man Steve I think I love you lol!  it worked great on the first side! next side should work fine!  glade this forum has people who has been there done that many times before !thanks a million my friend!

Now that is one nice hub puller!!!  If you have not drained the trans yet, pull out one of those bottom bolts that hold on the side plates to drain...there is no drain on the bottom.  Also, once you drain it, throw in a couple of quarts of diesel...slosh it around good and drain that.  It makes for a cleaner job when you do open it.  :handgestures-thumbup:

ok I have two transmissions that are the same I took the worst one apart first and saw one case nub broke ! angry face!!  and some of the gears are toast but I have not cleaned them yet! this transmission was stuck in nutral and I am having a hard time getting the fork ears to move at all to get the gears out!.  angry face again!!!!  I ran out of time to crack the other transmission open ! I really need some more fast orange hand cleaner!!!!

I can smell that transmission from here.  :)  Look for the nubie, it can be welded back on.  Actually, that is not too bad.  You might try tapping the shift rails with a ball peen to loosen, but be careful prying up with anything on the forks.  Get the gears out and take off the other side, then you can tap those shift rails from the other side.  I doubt you would have to use electrolysis with this one to loosen things up.  Let's see pictures of all the gears when you get them clean.  :occasion-xmas:

that transmission had a lot of bad gears in it missing teeth but my other transmission I opened up after work today and it looks great inside but the case had been brazed at one time and one bolt nub is cracked kinda loose but I was excited to see good looking gears!

this come from first transmission really rough!  clean gears come from the second transmission thank got they were in nice shape!  there is a gear that felt like it was sloppy on a shaft though might be able to get better pics of it tomorrow !

I got the forks to move in transmission that was stuck but I need to get a bigger roll pin removing tool to remove the rear end gears  ! what size roll pin tool do I need?

The differential contains two different sizes of roll pins.  If you look at the parts list, it will list the size of those roll pins.  I think one is 1/4" and the other is either 1/8" or 3/16".  ACE carries a set of roll pin punches for about $12.  A good set is about $25.  :occasion-xmas:

yeah you have got to buy the nice ones the cheap ones break easy ! I wish I was retired so i could work on it everyday I think I am hooked on old wheel horses found two more that are a good drive but at 150 each might be worth it! if my wife lets me lol

have some time today to clean gears and and source parts! is there some one that sells everything bearings bushings for gears too all in one bundle? maybe a 5010 complete overhaul kit ?
