Anything special I need to know to disassemble an HH60?

We're going to take apart the Tecumseh from my Honey's 657 so I can replace the crankshaft.

Any little tricks or tips I need to know about?

by General principle I don't disagree Mike but that's why I need to take this apart in the first place

Couldn't find the right one. This phone is terrible for searching on.

While I agree with the basic tools presented:

Handle could be a bit longer...

Usually need more than 3 beverages...

Typically do not dance before, during or after...

I agree with that wholeheartedly...

But, let me say two things about that.

1, I only just got this phone a few months ago and I'm kind of stuck with it for another year-and-a-half.

2, and most importantly, it's probably not the phone but the operator.

:P

based on my mechanical skills , take it to a machine shop or find an old guy that likes to tinker with motors.

I NEED one and can’t find it :angry-steamingears:

I have an 854 with unoriginal blown engine that I’m doing a complete restoration on

It’s now down to frame with tranny off and engine ready for sandblasting

Nope.

Low hours on the whole tractor and Trina wants to keep it as it was.

It ran great before I broke the crankshaft.

I'm attempting to install a replacement module for the points so we won't need to remove the flywheel again.

Well after a few months of delay I'm finally getting back around to replacing the crankshaft in this engine so we can get it put back on Trina's 657.

I've tested the ignition system and determined that the points were oxidized and that was the cause of it failing to run last year after the restoration on the tractor.

I've gone through the manual and it looks like a fairly simple disassembly.

Of course I only have to take apart enough to get the crankshaft out and not the valves or piston I guess.

I'm sure I'll come up with several more questions as I do this but the one that comes up for me immediately is that the manual states the cam and crank gears must match and I understand the logic of that.

Is this to say that I must remove the crank gear from the one that is in the engine and swap it to the replacement? Or is that not really a big deal?

@pfrederi or other Tecumseh folk, what say you?

A HUGE thank you to Tony @Docwheelhorse for settin' me up here.

The generosity of some of our members never ceases to amaze me.

This here is another 1974 C160, but with the rare Tecumseh HH/OH160 OHV engine. Made one year only.

It's rough. Very much in need of a full disassembly and restoration.

When it came here it was missing one tie rod and the other was broken off one end.
Today I popped used tie rods on and Trina used her 867 to drag it from the drive to the shed.

      The engine wouldn't move.
Tin was near chock full of skeletal mouseseses and their house.
Cleaned that out and the engine spins freely now.

      So progress has been made.

It'll be a good long while before we get to this one but I just couldn't turn it down considering the rarity.

Here's a crazy question I had to ask anyway. I have an old HH 60 that has no spark. Obviously something with the magneto. There is no way to recharge these correct?  I have cleaned all connections and still no spark any helpful suggestions lmk
      Thanx

So I have been working on a 656 I picked up at the end of last year and I did my first ever motor rebuild by my self on it. However it seems that I have lots of play in the piston and some slop at TDC more then I should have. So to finish the year mowing I am thinking of doing a predator swap while I go over the engine again. I am sure several people have done this before and I have a spare mounting plat to make it work. I am wondering if anyone has any pictures of ones they have done for help along the way. I know I will need a adapter to use the factory pulley and I don't want to destroy any of the sheetmetal since it is in good shape. I will keep you posted as I go along and eventually when I get the hh60 back together correctly to re install.
