We use salt straight from the mine.

We mix it with a de-icer to lower the salts working temp.

You can see the process(us mixing) in it's entirety documented here on our suppliers website...start the video at the bottom of his page.

http://www.djmsupply.com/

Who ever was the first to call this stuff "magic" wasn't B.S.ing...it's amazing to witness this stuff in action.

That’s quite a sight to see, I’m surprised of the use of loaders instead of some type of mixer or trommel of some type.  But those buckets are pretty awesome!

I made sure the plow truck battery was charged up, and I’ve gone through a couple tanks of fuel in the chainsaw.  Some day we’ll have the time to close the pool!  I’ve been telling myself that I’ll jump in on the day we close it, but that thought is slowly escaping my mind before I tell my kids!

Two simple words...  lotsa bungees.

just tie ‘er on and get ‘er spinning!  Tap a secondary hole on the housing for a @fast88pu turbo special :ROTF:

seriously though, that is a very cool setup @953 nut, be sure to let us know how that works, I’m digging the bling drive pulley and the big diesel exhaust pipe outlet!

Heck I am still mowing grass every 3-4 days...if it dries out enough to mow.  Supposed to be pushing 80 next week.  Snow horses are still sound asleep in the storage shed

I need to build me one of those blowers. I got one sitting in my garage that is collecting dust. What size is the pulley? How fast should they be spinning?

I know I'm getting a little off topic, but since we are talking Petes here is one of the trucks that I am the operator of in my volunteer fire department. It is my favorite in our arsenal of fire trucks. Long standing joke at the firehouse is" You better check with Don before you take that truck out!!" Luckily it's only myself and less than a handful of guys that drive it, and that is the reason it's still like new. I was on the purchasing committee. It's a 1996 379 with a 425hp Cat with a 9 speed. It's no 600hp with an 18 speed but we still git er done!!

Bob.... More about our lack of prep work later...

OK here goes.

Hand scrape the drive to level it a bit from rain runoff.... Might try to slap a plow on the B80 to try it out... or maybe the soon to be assembled cinnamon C160...

Remove engine tins from 2 snowblowers to look for rodents.

Reinstall said engine tins while complaining about said rodents.

Move snow shovels from hanging in shed to hanging on house wall.

Think about installing orange and yellow driveway corner marking sticks but never actually do it.

That's about it.

I have to bring in my fake chickens so they don't get too cold......

Move some decorative rocks so I don't hit them with the plow when there frozen in the ground.....

Put plastic up on the screen porch....

Get shovel and ice chopper out and put on porch to be ready for when my 15 yr. old beagle has to go potty........

Bring in glass gazing ball so it doesn't get broken and I have to fork over another $60 bucks on my way home from the show...

Haul my filled tires out of the basement and get them on the C160 and get them on HHHOOOWWWAAARRRDDD!!!

Dig the blower from the shop and pull off a wheel adapter to get another pair made....

I really love the Old School gold leaf against the red!!! My Dad was a fireman for 36 years and I  loved to go to the firehouse and climb on the trucks as a kid!

That’s a great engine in that truck too. The 379 Pete I worked on as pictured earlier has been deleted, custom ground cam, extensive head porting. Head was cut .017” and the deck on the block another .01” to bring up the quench in the cylinders. The fuel system was greatly improved and the injection pump rebuilt and tweaked by our resident guru. The injectors were from another Cat application I can’t recall at the moment. All that was good for a 1,000hp on our dyno 8 years ago without any crazy turbo mods. After years of abuse from moving heavy equipment the liner packs had to be swapped out and portable counterbore work done for shims with irregularly high projection for the added cylinder pressures in this engine.

Long story short, that engine in the truck you shared with regular maintenance will never fail the fire department! It’ll go a million miles easy when cared for! :banana-linedance:

Thanks for sharing!

Good timing Paul. I happen to have taken off one of the mounts so another pair can be made for @rjg854

A plate copied from the original skid with a bolt welded to it and a cotter pin hole to hold the wheel on. It just depends on what size axle the wheels your going to use are. My tires are   4.10 X 3.50 X 4 with 5/8" axle hole. just picked up 2 new ones at TSC for $20

We got a nice new bowling ball that doesn't even have the holes drilled in it for $4 on Facebook marketplace to use as a gazing ball. That's $56 less than a glass ball and it will be hard to break! :banana-jumprope:

No just put the logo on the bottom :laughing-rolling: besides, she said it would go in the front yard and with traffic driving by at 40-60 mph would think it was a real glass ball and it would look good at a distance :auto-nascar:

Where I am in north west Cumbria, on a plain near the sea, we don't get much snow if any. Built a snow plough a few years back and it's not been used in anger yet. Sometimes think floatation tyres may be an idea.
