Recommended Posts

I need two dust caps that fit front wheels on a 520h toro wheelhorse.  It looks like it is about 2in in diameter.

I looked and i dont think that one is right. I need one that slips over. Not one the presses into the hub.

Do you have a Maroon 520 with straight axle ?

If so, you need a dust cap that is used on many models of Wheel Horses and can be found on ebay, through Toro, or here https://www.partstree.com/parts/toro/mowers-lawn-garden-tractor/31-20oe01-520-h-toro-520-h-garden-tractor-1988/wheels-and-tires/

You need to actually measure it, then you can go to Napa/Advance Auto (or such) and get a "Dorman" brand replacement...the center one looks to be the closest according to my memory, Jeff.

Maroon is the colour of the decals on the early models like this.

The close one has a swept axle with dust caps like a trailer hub has.

The upper / back one has a straight axle and little plastic dust caps that snap onto a washer holding the wheel on.

Later models had black decals like this.

If you have the swept axles, you can get a dust cap, and bearings for that matter anyplace that sells trailer parts.

Just take the one from the other side if possible and match it up.

I would but mine had no dust caps or washers. They had just the coderpins and had the chrome hub caps over that on both sides

If you can post a picture showing your front wheels up close we can figure out what you need.

Now that does not look right.

Is your retainer on a threaded shaft ?

If so you should have a castle nut and cotter key.

It should look like this.

This is what is inside your front wheels.

This is what your wheel should look like with hub cap installed.

Mine is not threaded. Its a 3/4in shaft and has a hole for a coderpin. I added the retainer.

You just need a standard rubber dust cab. ;-)

The 88 and 89 520H used a different axle than the later ones that had the two tapered roller bearings (Cleat's Pictures).  These 88-89 units had a simple shaft with a cotter pin to hold the bearings, washers, and wheel on.

The part number for the cap is 111951

I think the 520-HC used the tapered roller bearings.

I wonder if the standard rubber WH caps would fit.  Not sure

OK, you have the straight axle so you can order the parts here https://www.partstree.com/parts/toro/mowers-lawn-garden-tractor/31-20oe01-520-h-toro-520-h-garden-tractor-1988/wheels-and-tires/

You will need 2 of items #13, #14, and #15 to do both sides.

The flat washer # 15 is a special outside diameter for the cap #13 to snap onto.

Your wheels will look like this when done.

The joystick, brake lever, and drive belt tension release look like a 1988 or 1989.  The hood looks to be from a later 520H.

As Kurt said, that is why the confusion around the decal colours.

You have an 88 or 89.

When ordering parts you can use model number 31-20OE01.

Another give away for the early 1988 and 1989,  They had two switches on the idiot light panel.  One for test and the other for the lights.  Later years only had the light switch.
