Jim, there’s a shop full of step stools in there!  Sure some look like fooseball tables, buckets or chairs... but they’re all stools indeed!  I was thinking, I might have to break down and get a pressure washer to clean this engine compartment and frame before I reassemble everything!

Nothing beat‘s a rock solid wooden Chair...😂

If one of our Safety guy’s will see that, you may be in troubles here, but i do it sometimes also

My chair is about 30 years old i guess, but it is massive Wood and i love it because of it‘s stability.

It is the last chair i have from a Set, but only that survived over the Times.

I only removed on mine the backrest, but it’s honestly the best „tool“ ever and often more stable and handier than a stool.

i will move mine into the new Barn - that’s for sure.

:ph34r::music-rockon:

Well, it is Monday.  Next Wednesday, I am supposed to hook up the camper and haul about 5 hours south for the races.  I’d love to have a couple days of drive time around here before that!

It might just take a miracle and some extra help to make it happen!

Yah ...Uncle Jim's watching. Best buy one for ya smoke the borrowed one then ya gotta fix or replace that. :hide:

I usually wash before disassembly just to keep gunk from clogging up tools  then again after. All I ever use is that purple power or purple clean or whatever it's called.

One thing with pressure washing is some washers have the power will take your skin off so be careful around seals and gaskets. You will force water in places it should not be. Had one once rip a cv joint boot on a atv.

Big progress again on Norman thanks again to @PeacemakerJack and @Coulter Caleb!

Left to do... assemble the clutch and transmission, install the air dog fuel system and drop the cab! :auto-layrubber:

Appreciate your videos, but with my volume controls maxed out on my laptop and my hearing aids, I still can barely make out a word.  :huhs:

I will work on that, eventually.  I suppose a better microphone would be nice!  Thank you for the constructive criticism!

I must add, when the time lapse function is on, it does not record sound.  :handgestures-thumbupright:

one of my children needed the iPad for school work, so not much on the video side of things.

Last night and this morning we bolted the box down, changed the oil, topped off 5 gallons of coolant, rerouted the fuel return line, used compressed air to prime the fuel system and bled the fuel supply all the way to the injection pump.  The wiring harness for the AirDog fuel pump had provisions for a tank level sensor I believe, so I eliminated that wiring mess and simplified it to solid grounds, a fused power supply and one positive signal.  For now, it is just clamped to the battery post but I’ll clean that up.

Time to test!  We cranked for a while, but no fire.  The batteries have been on the charger since I pulled Norman in, so they are good and strong.  We cracked a fuel line on either side of the engine’s fuel rails to make sure there was fuel through the injection pump.  Then, underneath the truck a pool of fuel began to form.  Josh cranked for a bit while I climbed all over looking for fuel line connections.  Ah ha!  The fuel line feeding the back of the driver’s side fuel rail was loosened when I was taking the engine apart while it was still in the other truck!

Once that was tightened, we cranked it a few more seconds and Norman Fired Up!  Our concern right now is that it was not registering oil pressure.  I believe we (read “I”) missed the oil pressure sensor hooking up the harness and that is the only issue.  The Texas truck had ample oil pressure before tear down and it ran too amazing to have an internal issue.

This afternoon, it’s dentist appt time for the family and we’ll be back in the shop to work on buttoning this thing up!

The parts store fellas suggested I purchase a vacuum pump for the A/C system before refilling it so that is currently disconnected and the clutch is freewheeling.

@953 nut @WVHillbilly520H @PeacemakerJack @ZXT @Achto @Greentored @Redneckdavis @ebinmaine @oliver2-44 @HandyProfessor @stevebo @richmondred01 @pfrederi @squonk @WHX24 all you guys and more I think of as hot rodders, engine mechanics, gear heads or might just have a wild hair thought here.  Some of ya might not know diesel stuff, but let’s just think.

I know that funnies can get me through this, but please let’s try to focus on the fix for a minute and throw sticks when it’s figured out? Tall order Uncle Jim I know.

If you go to the end of the video above, you’ll hear the rhythmic thump backfire.  Diesels don’t have spark, so no ignition timing.  Would valve timing be the only possible answer?  There is no smoke out the tailpipe, leads me to one exhaust valve maybe stuck closed?  Pushrod bent or broken?  I also wonder if the pushrod did something which deadheaded the boost which blew the boot... instead of the boot blowing, damaging something else when the boost all went away?

I've extremely limited knowledge of the mechanics of diesels in general. If I come in contact with a tech in the next day or whatever I'll pose the question to them.

My first guess is valve train. Is the sound resonating thru the intake hose or related plumbing? Sounds like an exhaust valve not opening and the cylinder pressure after firing is escaping backwards when the intake vale opens. If you do FB post your question and video to Gale Banks' page. someone may be able to help. My 2nd guess is something to do with an injector.

      1947 Empire (Jeep) Tractor

The Empire tractor consisted of military power components from World War II-era jeeps. It had a 4-cylinder, 40 hp Willys-Overland engine, a Model T-84 Spicer 3-speed transmission, Spicer transfer case with high and low speeds, Willys rear end, steering column and gearbox. It also had PTO, individual clutch-type rear brakes with a stop provided for parking and a rear belt pulley. The fuel tank and an Empire-style seat were mounted on a large operator's platform (made from Navy ship decking). Its simple, basic gauges (ammeter, oil pressure and temperature), ignition switch and starter button also came from the jeep. The Empire tractor was originally made for exportation in the Lend-Lease Program after World War II.

If I had to mention a couple of things that made the Empire Tractor really unique, one would be the straight bar hitch that pulled from under the center of the tractor (patented) thus making an overturn nearly impossible. The other selling point was, of course, the Willys engine and drive train made famous in the Jeep during World War II. The Empire was a well equipped tractor, very reliable and versatile with its wide range of speeds. Today this tractor draws a lot of attention at shows and is very sought after by collectors commanding higher than average prices.

Well fellas I decided to buy a jeep wrangler as a new toy. I have always been into the off-roading scene since I was a kid. I always loved trucks, jeeps, atvs. Recently a friend of mine traded his mustang for a lifted wrangler and its a blast to go off-roading in or wheeling as they like to put it.

I couldn't help myself and wanted to join in so I bought a 1993 with 153,000 miles on it with a ton of add ons for a great price. It has a 5.5" suspension lift, a 2' body lift and rides on 35" tires. She has 4.56 gears which are awesome for crawling, 4wd low range and 1st gear and you don't even have to touch the gas pedal. It is a 4.0L 6 cylinder engine back by a 5 speed manual trans. The rear drive shaft is a custom cv drive shaft with a slip yoke eliminator. The rear axle is a ford 8.8 limited slip with disc brakes out of a ford explorer. The frame is perfect not a spec of rust and was coated with POR-15.

She does have her fair share of issues but I am working on getting those straightened out! I just had the front drive shaft rebuilt and balanced. I ordered all new extremely heavy duty shocks. I need to fabricate 2 custom rear shock mounts as the "custom" ones that were on it broke off lol. She needs 2 new leaf spring packs in the rear. Some body work. A good cleaning after this weekend. Some fender flares. Etc!

If anyone has any good oh crap off-roading or wheeling stories with their jeeps or pictures please share. After this past Sundays experience I could probably top them lol.

I hope you enjoy the pics and the video my jeep was the main attraction. (I did not edit the video a friend did, so turn down the volume or the music might scare you)
