She bought her own tractor !!!!

I can’t answer any of your questions my friend but I’m sure that someone will be along soon who can!

I just want to say publicly that I’m happy for your Honey that she was able to get her own Horse!  She is going to have a lot of fun making it red and beautiful again.  She will also have lots of fun using it for chores around the “ranch”.  That is a neat little tractor and should be well suited for the task at hand!

I’ll be following along with anticipation for the next update...

Yeah that gas tank/muffler issue looks to be from a snowblower; but hey it runs and it's hers. Tell her to have fun with it!!!

Techy Model # is correct.  There originally was an elbow out of the block and a small pepper pot muffler.

You are correct with the single Wheelhorse at startup. Right now we have three, 2 up and running. I'm actually looking at two more. Oh my. What have I started.

 As an aside...

would be interesting to see how much of it's original paint could actually be saved.

I'm betting, quite a lot on this one.   :twocents-twocents:

Unfortunately, not so much.

There are dozens of little rust blisters in the paint that go right through to the metal.

It'll end up with a nice fresh coat of red.

Gas tank for that Teccy powered tractor is correct.

The exhaust port should be threaded so you can certainly add a pipe.

That engine has the charging coils and the old style diode rectifier system so it's definitely not from a snow blower.

The engine can be replaced with a 7 or 8hp Kohler fairly easy when the time comes.

Congrats on the new addition!

Thank you both for the info.

Other than being in serious need of an obvious cleaning and maybe a carb wash out it seems to run pretty well.

Maybe if this engine ever quits it will end up with an 8 horse Kohler.

I've come to like my b80 quite a lot over the last couple years.

Nice score :woohoo: !!!

And you better get a backhoe because you know what happens when you’re bitten by the :wh:bug...  ! Now that your wife has her own plan on at least 1 or 2 or 3 of those tractors coming home with you  :ROTF: .

Tonight's project...

A little more disassembly and...

Vacuumed the mouse nest and grease and crud out of the engine fins, and.

Begin degreasing

She sprayed it with Degreaser and paint stripper and we used some brake clean.

My show tractors for October Festivals.
RJ59, 1045, 657 w/sickle bar, 10HP and D200. Just love the attention and hearing the stories of grandpa or growing up had one. Always can see the joy these Horses bring to the spectators. Than telling them the WH history story along with Speedex story always intrigues them.
Than of course there is always someone that needs to get one out of the way.
Last year it was the 1045 and the PO was so excited to learn I got her running and been mowing my grass all summer. Of course I had to let him drive her around.
      This year it’s a 702 I think I getting this week.
So many were engrossed by the Sickle Bar never knowing such was available on garden tractors.

As stated in another section my honey went and bought herself a 657 a few days ago. Sunday afternoon to be exact.

Runs and drives quite well and had a very serious and non negotiable issue.
It's Oliver green with Ford gray wheels.

Other than that the work should be minimal standard stuff.

Well of course she started tearing right into the disassembling of the lucky little tractor.
We started to show the daily work being done to it and then realized we should really start a new thread in the proper location.

So here's a few before pics as a reminder.

Here's the end of Sunday results.

And a pic from Monday nights work.

After this was taken she found some spray on paint stripper and emptied the can on it.

We left it on for 24 hours or so.

      And found red paint!!

If you read the restoration thread you'll see that one of my recent posts involves me snapping off the end of the crankshaft during an attempted repair.
You'll also see about a Briggs & Stratton engine  I'm going to use.

What I'm looking for in this thread is if anyone has ever put an older style Briggs & Stratton in place of a Tecumseh or even a Kohler....

What are the things I need to watch for?
    • ebinmaine
      By ebinmaine
I'm accustomed to using Non detergent oil in all older small engines.
Thanks to @pfrederi I have the manual for the Tecumseh and it says to use detergent oil BUT it is printed in 1998... Over 30 years after DOM on my engine.

      What do you folks use??
