312-8 wiring nest!

Recommended Posts

Kasweld

Hi all, new to the site and hope you can assist me,

I’ve purchased a 312-8 today to do up, only thing is the wiring is worse than a crows nest!

I’ve put a charged battery on and nothing, no lights noises or anything, the ignition switch has been re-wired and there is non connected wires all over the place,

Im just wondering if there is a good diagram to follow as I plan to re-wire it,

I shall get all the relevant numbers tomorrow to correctly identify it

yours hopefully, kasweld

Welcome to the forum.

Numbers off the tractor ID decal possibly under the left side of the seat and/or

All the numbers off the engine data decal including the serial number

With those we should be able to identify the correct wiring diagram. There are a few.

:WRS:             You have a 1989 312-8 according to the engine spec #. this manual has wiring diagrams to help get you started. as questions arise please start a post on that specific question so you will get lots of input from members here.

The Kohler serial number indicates the engine was made in 1987 so there is a chance the tractor is a 1988 model E1-12K801.

I've seen worse... i have a C-175 with a factory harness, all black wires... with little numbers on each wire instead of color coded... lol

On my 414-8, which is probably similar to yours, after spending 15-20 minutes looking at that horrible mess with the nightmare of safety switches, etc I quickly decided to rip it all out and just go back with the basics - to start, run and stop! Though I did wire in the headlights.... From that point on things went real smooooth!

Have just located the I.d number

it was on the deck, so I’m hoping it’s the original one

any better clues on date??

Had the mower out today and cut grass, goes really well, runs a treat and made light work of the grass

few little niggle bits to sort, eg fabricate some belt guards for deck and front puley,

and fabricate a new exhaust as one that’s on is wrong

thanks for everyone’s help 👍👍
